The City is seeking a dynamic, visionary executive and effective team-oriented leader who exemplifies our core values of teamwork, integrity, innovation and professionalism for the position of Assistant Planning Director. 
This position is located in the Planning Department with The City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of the Planning Director. The Assistant Director assists in the overall management, administration and coordination of activities within a department and may be assigned responsibility for a division of a department in addition to Assistant Director duties.  The Assistant Director plays an important role in the land use planning, redevelopment and community development activities of the City, and therefore, specific expertise in redevelopment, economic development, and community development is sought.  In addition, the Assistant Director will act as an official representative of the Department to other City Departments, City Manager’s Office, elected officials and outside agencies. 

DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES:  
  • Master's Degree in Planning, Public Administration, or related field.
  • Professional planning certification.
  • Experience with redevelopment, economic development, and community development.
  • Experience managing complex projects.
  • Experience interpreting and applying municipal codes.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and managing activities of a diverse workforce.
  • Experience supervising multiple professionals and coordinating teams.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Personnel policies.
  • Experience working with employees on disciplinary or professional development processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
