Job Description
MPR Associates, Inc. is a steadily growing, private consulting firm of almost 90 employees committed to helping improving American education by conducting clear, unbiased, policy relevant research and developing practical recommendations for a variety of clients ranging from the U.S. Department of Education to state education agencies and non-profit institutions. We combine expertise in collecting, analyzing, and using data with innovative uses of technology and deep content knowledge that spans K-12 through adult education.

We are seeking a full-time, junior-level Research Associate at either our headquarters in Berkeley, CA or our satellite office in Washington, DC.

We are interested in candidates with interest and substantive knowledge in one or more of the following research areas:

* Using data for school or program improvement
* K12 and postsecondary educational access, engagement and outcomes such as drop-out and college readiness for at risk populations
* Workforce and college readiness for youth and adults including connecting academics and career-technical education, ESL, adult basic education, workforce basic skills and correctional education
* Student financial aid, student debt and college costs

Typical responsibilities include the design of research projects and statistical analyses, management and analysis of large and complex data sets, site visits and literature reviews, writing and collaborating on reports for publication, preparing presentations, assisting in the development of research proposals, and supervising the work of research assistants and/or research programmers.
Job Requirements

Minimum qualifications include:

* Advanced degree in education, sociology, public policy, statistics, economics, demography, or other social science field
* 1-2 years relevant research experience with substantive knowledge in an education-related research area
* Substantial knowledge of social science research methods with demonstrated experience in statistical techniques and data management
* Experience designing research/evaluation projects and in using both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis strategies, including interviews, focus groups, and surveys
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to organize, write about and discuss data and complex issues clearly
* Strong computer literacy skills with advanced knowledge of MS Office and solid experience using statistical software such as SAS or STATA
* Superior organizational skills and a commitment to accuracy and excellence
* Valid long-term authorization to work in the United States
