The Institute of Public Administration of Leiden University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Public Administration. We seek public administration specialists with abroad profile. Expertise in areas linked to the Institute’s teaching such as aspects of global governance, development administration, security and crisis management, public policy, or public management would be a plus.
The Institute of Public Administration has an established international profile and has consistently received high ratings in peer reviews of both its teaching and research programs. The Institute offers a Dutch-language Bachelor program and English and Dutch language Master’s programs in Public Administration and Public Administration Research at the Leiden and The Hague campuses, attracting a total of 200 or more new students annually.
Requirements
Candidates are expected to be able to teach courses in these programs and to contribute to the Institute’s research and management. They must hold a PhD in public administration, political science, economics, or another field in the social sciences relevant to the indicated fields of expertise (candidates who are about to finish their PhD will also be considered), have a promising publication record that includes publications in international refereed journals, and have demonstrated ability to teach and develop new courses as evident from student evaluations or references.
In addition to proficiency in English, fluency in Dutch is considered an important asset. Staff members would be expected to be functionally fluent in Dutch within 2 years after starting the job.
Leiden University requires staff to obtain the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO). In case the successful applicant does not possess this qualification or its equivalent, the Institute will offer support in obtaining it.
Conditions of employment
The starting salary, depending on experience, varies from scale 11 to 12 with a maximum of € 4.970 per month gross, based on full time employment.
The candidate will be appointed for one year (with a successful initial trial period of two months), Following a positive evaluation, the contract would be prolonged for four years with the possibility of obtaining a tenured position afterwards based on performance.
