Job Description
RAND Corporation, a non-profit research institution that helps improve policy and decision-making through research and analysis, seeks a successful education research leader and executive to serve as the next Director of RAND Education and Distinguished Chair in Education Policy. This position is the head of RAND’s education policy research efforts and reports directly to RAND’s President and CEO.
Drawing on RAND’s research staff of nearly 1,000 analysts from numerous academic disciplines and professions, the Director will drive RAND Education to dramatically expand and diversify the scope of its research and analysis in the coming years, and increase the division’s influence in bringing about higher quality education around the globe. To accomplish this ambitious agenda, the new Director will need to grow, and in some cases, reconstitute the revenue streams needed to support the division’s important work; recruit, retain, develop, and lead a highly productive team; strengthen and augment the division’s research activities; and work externally to enhance the reputation and impact of RAND Education. In addition to the leadership responsibilities listed above, the new Director will also be able to pursue independent research interests up to a third of his/her time through funding from the Distinguished Chair in Education Policy. The Director may work out of any of RAND’s three principal North American locations which are Santa Monica, California, the home of its headquarters campus; Arlington, Virginia; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The successful candidate will possess an advanced degree in a relevant field such as public policy, sociology, education, economics, political science, social psychology, social work, psychology, or human development, an outstanding reputation for affecting education policy, and the proven capacity to develop new clients and financial support in the United States and abroad.
