SPEA is interested in candidates with broad interests and knowledge of the emerging issues in the field of nonprofits-- including nonprofit management and governance, relationships between the sectors, social entrepreneurship and social enterprise, and the globalization of the sector. Disciplinary background and research areas are open, but preference will be given to candidates with rigorous quantitative methodological training and an interest in comparative or international research of the nonprofit sector. Applicants must present evidence of high quality research and an ambitious research program, an interest in professional service applications, and a strong commitment to high quality teaching. Applicants should show clear promise for conducting applied research in a multidisciplinary env

A Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline is required. ABD candidates are welcome to apply, but the degree must be completed prior to the August 2011 start date of the appointment. The successful applicant will be expected to teach in both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in SPEA’s Public Policy Institute, which conducts research with state and local governments and nonprofit organizations, as well as colleagues at the world-renowned Center on Philanthropy headquartered on the IUPUI campus.
SPEA is a multi-disciplinary, university-wide division of Indiana University, established as a professional school to address critical issues of governance, management and policy. With over 30,000 students, IUPUI is the third-largest campus in the state and confers more professional degrees than any other campus in Indiana. IUPUI is a Research I intensive institution, with over $400 million in external grants and contracts received in 2009-2010. The research portfolio of SPEA IUPUI faculty includes innovative projects with state, local and federal agencies as well as philanthropic foundations. The campus is adjacent to the thriving downtown Indianapolis, is within walking distance of the state government buildings, and provides ample opportunities for collaboration with business, nonprofit, and governmental leaders in the region. The SPEA program in nonprofit management was ranked third in the nation by U.S. News and World Reports in 2010.
Applications will be reviewed beginning December 1, 2010 and will continue until the position is filled. As a unit in Indiana’s urban research institution, SPEA is committed to diversity and especially interested in candidates who will contribute to achievement of our diversity objectives.
