Assistant Professor of Public Administration (Tenure Track) – Available September 2011

The Department of Urban Planning, Health & Public Administration at Eastern Washington University’s College of
Business & Public Administration is currently seeking to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin
September 2011. The College seeks faculty who are committed to excellence in instruction and who appreciate a
student-centered, applications-oriented, hands-on emphasis in the education process.
Eastern is a growing and dynamic public university co-located in Cheney and Spokane with an enrollment of
approximately 10,000 students. We offer over 100 degree programs including baccalaureate and masters degrees. The
College of Business & Public Administration is accredited by AACSB International. Eastern’s MPA program is part of the
Department of Urban Planning, Health & Public Administration in the College of Business and Public Administration. An
urban, professional program, it is located on the Riverpoint Campus adjacent to downtown Spokane. All of its classes
are offered weekday evenings or on weekend schedules.
Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities will be to teach courses in the MPA program, to lead students through their capstone
requirements, and to chair oral examinations. Teaching in the urban and regional planning or health services
administration programs will depend upon qualifications. As a member of EWU’s graduate faculty, the incumbent will
be expected to have an ongoing research program that regularly results in publications and be active in community
and/or professional service.
Qualifications – Requirements:
• Doctorate or terminal degree in Public Administration or related field must be conferred by 9/17/2011 (the date of
appointment);
• Some teaching experience at the college level;
• Instructional competency in at least one and as many of the following as possible: public administration with
budgeting, human resource management, research methods, diversity issues in management, urban
planning/studies, and/or health services administration;
• Good writing skills;
• Experience or demonstrated potential in professional activities and research.
• Demonstrated high degree of interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Administrative experience;
• Record of publications and service;
• Teaching experience at the graduate level.
