Applied Research Positions in Health Policy - Office of Evaluation and Inspections - Chicago, IL

APPLIED RESEARCH POSITIONS IN HEALTH POLICY

Position: The Office of Evaluation and Inspections (OEI) is looking for select individuals to join our team of skilled analysts to improve government programs that affect the lives of every American. As part of an independent oversight agency, you will have the opportunity to assess the policies, procedures, and operations of important health and human service programs.

OEI conducts national evaluations to provide the Department of Health and Human Services, Congress, and the public with timely, useful, and reliable information on significant issues. Specifically, these evaluations focus on preventing fraud, waste, and abuse and promoting economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in departmental programs. To promote impact, our evaluations present practical recommendations for improving program operations.

Working with a team of analysts, you will assist in producing high-quality, quick-turnaround national studies. You will be responsible for researching program issues, developing data collection instruments, conducting interviews, compiling and analyzing data, reviewing guidelines and procedures, and writing reports. Programs you will evaluate could include: Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP, Health IT, home health care, and Head Start.

Hiring: GS-9 level. This grade level corresponds to the experience level of recent Master’s degree. The GS-9 salary starts around $51,000 with full benefits package. Rapid promotion potential.

Requirements: Candidates should have experience conducting policy analysis, program evaluation, or social service research. Strong research, critical thinking, persuasive writing, and communication skills are essential. Program knowledge of Medicare and/or Medicaid is advantageous.
