Description
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida State University seeks candidates for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions to begin in August 2018, as described below. We especially seek individuals who can contribute to our ongoing efforts to enhance our multicultural educational environment.
Position 1: Assistant Professor, Land Use and Real Estate Development
The successful candidate for this position is required to have a Land Use and Real Estate Development focus, with general teaching and research interests focused upon land development in the United States. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to strengthening the relationship between the Department of Urban and Regional Planning and the Real Estate program in the College of Business. The successful candidate will teach courses in the unit’s core curriculum, land use specialization, and at the intersection of land use planning and real estate development. We encourage applications from candidates who can incorporate topics such as development finance, project permitting, and fiscal impact analysis into our planning curriculum. Understanding of the Florida land development context would be welcome, though similar experience elsewhere would also be useful.
Position 2: Assistant Professor, Land Use Planning
The successful candidate for this position will serve as a primary faculty member in the program’s nationally recognized Land Use and Comprehensive Planning specialization. The successful candidate will teach courses in the unit’s core curriculum and land use specialization, and may include courses that cover related topics such as: comprehensive planning, sustainable infrastructure and development, plan implementation, site planning, or urban redevelopment. We further seek candidates who can teach at the intersection of land use and other dimensions of planning. We encourage candidates whose research contributes to how issues of land use impact individuals differently by race and ethnicity, social and economic mobility, and gender and sexual orientation to apply. We are especially interested in scholars whose work engages with issues of concern to Latina and Latino communities in the United States and/or communities in the Latin America and Caribbean regions.
Administratively housed within the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, the Department includes 11 faculty and 110 graduate students and offers a PAB-accredited professional master's degree, a Ph.D., and an undergraduate minor. The Department offers joint degrees with Demography, International Affairs, Law, Public Administration, and Public Health. The department has research emphases in: Planning for an Aging Population; Planning for Healthy and Resilient Communities; Sustainable Communities; Collaborative Environmental Management; Community and Neighborhood Change; Transportation, Land Use and Accessibility; and Human Settlements and Institutions in the Context of Global Change. College partners include the Center for Disaster Risk Policy, DeVoe L. Moore Center, and the Center for Demography and Population Health.
Founded in 1965, we have awarded over 1,500 graduate degrees. The Department also includes the Florida Planning and Development Lab, an entity designed to provide planning services to communities in Florida, the southeastern U.S., and Latin America. Requirements
