The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University invites applications for full-time, open-rank faculty positions in Urban Planning in the tenured, tenure-track and professor of practice categories. The GSAPP is a school dedicated to designing and understanding the local and global built environment with programs in Architecture, Planning, Preservation, Real Estate Development, Urban Design, Curatorial Studies, and doctoral programs in Architecture and Planning. The Urban Planning program is one of the oldest in the nation and has approximately 100 Master’s and 25 Ph.D. students. The Program’s mission is to prepare our students to become leaders of the profession, who are technically capable, ethically informed and committed to the pursuit of equity and social justice in the betterment of the lives of urban people and urban places.
Open to candidates across all urban planning fields, GSAPP is particularly interested in candidates who teach and conduct research in physical planning, environmental issues (including the effects of climate change on cities), data analytics, community development, and global urbanization. Senior candidates should be able and willing to direct the Urban Planning Program. We anticipate hiring two new faculty for a start date of July 1, 2016.
Responsibilities will include teaching, research, and administration. Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to advancing the field through teaching, practice, and/or research. They will show clear evidence of expertise and have strong leadership and communications skills. They must have demonstrated capacity for original work and show promise of significant continuing contributions. A Master’s or Ph.D degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field is required.
Senior positions require substantial teaching, research, and/or professional experience. Qualifications for senior positions (tenured or tenure-track) include a strong record of refereed publications and a demonstrable record of outstanding scholarship. Applicants to junior positions must show evidence of great promise of teaching, research and/or professional excellence. Qualifications for junior positions (tenure-track) include emerging leadership in the candidate’s field and the potential to produce outstanding scholarship. Professors of Practice candidates should have significant experience in planning practice and a demonstrable record of excellence in their professional career. Faculty of the Urban Planning Program are expected to collaborate with colleagues across GSAPP on research, teaching studios and events.
GSAPP seeks faculty who can innovate their disciplines and can create an environment where students can not only be educated in current and past ideas and methods, but can also explore and test new ideas. Therefore, preference will generally be given to candidates who are able to teach and/or conduct research in both traditional fields and in an emergent specialization.

The faculty of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning invites applicants for a ladder (tenure track) position as assistant professor in the field of Environmental Planning. Our faculty is part of the School of Architecture and Planning, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. The appointment is expected to commence in August 2016.

We are searching for applicants whose research and teaching interests focus on environmental planning, in any combination of the following:
· Climate change
· Ecosystem restoration

· Related fields
By the beginning of the appointment in August 2016, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in planning or a related field. They should have a promising research agenda and a broad appreciation of planning as a profession. They must have a good ability to communicate effectively with students and evaluate student papers in written English. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
The selected candidate may be given teaching responsibilities in any or all of our department’s degree programs, described below. We are especially interested in candidates who will become closely involved in the “Environmental and Land Use Planning” specialization within the Master of Urban Planning Program.
The duties of a faculty member involve a combination of research, teaching, and service. The teaching load is two classes per semester, at the graduate or undergraduate level in the general curriculum as well as in his or her area of specialization. Up to two course-relief opportunities may be available during the tenure-track period. There is an also expectation of service to the department, school, university, and community.
Our Department: With thirteen tenured or tenure-track faculty members, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning is one of two accredited departments in a professional school of about 700 full-time equivalent students. The Department offers five degree programs: the B.A. in Environmental Design with about 90 students; the accredited Master’s of Urban Planning (M.U.P.) degree with about 90 students; joint master degrees with Architecture, Law, and soon Public Health; and a growing Ph.D. degree in Urban Planning currently with nine students. The department also participates in administering master’s level studies in historic preservation and real estate development.
The department is expected to re-enter its fully restored nineteenth-century building on the university’s historic urban campus, by the summer of 2016. We are served by a fine Architecture and Planning Library, and have excellent computing facilities, with a variety of high-performing systems available in labs and studios.
Interdisciplinary Opportunities: The person hired for this position will be encouraged to become involved with the new and expanding “RENEW” Institute at the University at Buffalo, which conducts research and education related to energy, environment, and water. The Institute is university-wide and interdisciplinary, focusing on complex energy and environmental issues, as well as the social and economic ramifications. He or she is also encouraged to collaborate with faculty members in our neighboring Department of Architecture, with which we have close collegial relations, as well as with colleagues in the natural and social sciences and engineering.

The university offers 90 Ph.D. and 135 master’s programs, and has outstanding supercomputing, library, and research facilities, including numerous interdisciplinary centers and institutes for faculty collaboration.
The Community: Near our campus is the University Heights neighborhood with coffee shops, eateries, bookstores, and a full array of commercial outlets and services. The campus is highly accessible, situated on a subway and other transit lines. Housing opportunities are abundant and affordable.

We seek social scientists with research and training interests in any area of urban studies. Applicants may have had training in urban sociology, urban geography, or any other cognate discipline. Applications are especially encouraged from scholars with interests in urban society and social change, institutions, built environment and morphology, infrastructure, or urban and regional development. A complementary interest in GIS is desirable but not necessary.

Tenure Track Faculty Search - Latin American Development Planning
The Community and Regional Planning Program at the University of New Mexico is seeking candidates for a tenure track position starting in the Fall 2016 academic year.
The Planning Program is seeking a tenure track assistant professor in the area of Latin American development planning. Teaching requirements will include a graduate seminar in Latin American Development Planning, and may include Cultural Aspects of Planning, Regional Community Development, planning studios and practicums, Indigenous Planning in Latin America, and topical courses in his or her area of specialization. The successful candidate will be familiar with Latin American economic development theory and practice, community economic development, application of indigeneity and broadly defined sustainability principles in Latin American Planning, and methods of collaborative planning and consensus building. The candidate should be grounded in the discourse on identity and place and community-based approaches to development in community and regional settings. The program is particularly interested in seeking candidates with research and/or practice in areas such as Indigenous Planning.
Minimum Qualifications: 1) Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning or a terminal professional degree in planning or a related field; 2) demonstrated teaching experience; and 3) research or practice experience in community development planning or a related field. Preferred Qualifications: 1) demonstrated current research agenda in Latin American development planning theory and practice, 2) ability to teach at undergraduate, masters’ and doctoral levels, 3) a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities, and 4) direct and current experience with community based practice in Latin American settings. 5) Candidates should have the ability to work in interdisciplinary and collegial settings, and 6) bring established scholarly and professional networks in Latin American planning to the UNM CRP program. 7) Preferred candidates will have a Ph.D. in Community and Regional Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Geography, Economics or a related field. 8) Preferred candidates will show promise for distinguished scholarship and applied research or professional practice.

The Community and Regional Planning Program in the School of Architecture & Planning at the
University of New Mexico offers a professional Master of Community and Regional Planning degree,
accredited since 1985, and an undergraduate degree in Environmental Planning and Design. The
CRP faculty is considering embarking on a program of doctoral studies. About 65 graduate students
and 50 undergraduates are enrolled each year. About one-quarter of graduate students are enrolled in
dual degrees with Latin American Studies, Water Resources, or Public Administration. The School is
home to the Indigenous Design and Planning Institute and the Resource Center for RAZA Planning.

Cleveland State University is searching for active, culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber. The Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of economic development planning or policy. We seek someone with the potential or ability to contribute to our national ranking in urban policy/city management and to support the university’s mission of engaged learning. The successful candidate will enhance the existing strengths of our academic programs and applied research incorporating urban planning, public administration, and/or economic development. The candidate will teach primarily in our Master of Urban Planning and Development, Master of Public Administration and Master of Science in Urban Studies degrees and will contribute to our specializations in Economic Development. There is also an expectation that the candidate will teach in our new Bachelor of Economic Development degree program and other undergraduate offerings. Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. in urban or regional planning, public administration, public policy, urban studies, economics, political science, geography, finance related to urban economic development, or a related field. ABD candidates must complete all requirements for the Ph.D. by July 1, 2016. Candidates must have the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in planning, economic development, urban policy and urban studies. Candidates must have a research record with demonstrated expertise in economic development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Teaching and research expertise in economic development planning and policy, with interest in one or more of the following areas: workforce, anti-poverty policy, industry organization, sustainable development and/or the practice of economic development. Demonstrated ability in raising external funding and interest in working with the College’s applied research centers,
especially the Center for Economic Development and the Center for Community Planning and Development, is desired at the Assistant Professor level, and expected at the Associate level. The ability to advance understanding and familiarity with issues related to economic development in evolving market climates and in slow-growth metropolitan areas, such as Cleveland; experience with on-line teaching; and interest in working with Ph.D. students is also desirable, especially at the Associate Professor level. The ability to contribute through research/scholarship, teaching, and/or service to the diversity, cultural sensitivity, and excellence of the Levin College.
