Planning Director / MPO Technical Director
The Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission is seeking a candidate for its Planning Director / MPO Technical Director position. This is a management level position that works under the direction of the Executive Director and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the planning section including the federal requirements associated with being the Metropolitan Planning Organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of the Commission’s planning function including:
  • Overseeing the planning section of the MBCP&Z Commission and managing the operational aspects of the MPO assuring conformance with federal and state requirements for transportation planning.
  • Maintaining and updating the 25 year Long Range Transportation Plan (updated every 4 years) and the Transportation Improvement Program (updated annually).
  • Developing and managing the Unified Planning Work Program.
  • Managing FHWA and FTA planning grants including progress reports and reimbursement requests.
  • Leading complex projects, plans and studies involving multiple areas of transportation and land use planning including sensitive situations involving multiple partners.
  • Utilizing various software and application tools to analyze data and prepare reports, transportation plans, and studies focusing on short-range planning, long-range planning, environmental, and land use/transportation interface.
Applicants should possess a MS/MA degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in urban planning, transportation planning, or related studies. Consideration will be given to applicants with a BA/BS degree with additional years of exp. The Commission is seeking an individual with at least ten years of progressively responsible experience in transportation and land use planning with a working knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS software, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Publisher. Creative problem solving and graphic presentation skills are highly desirable. The successful candidate will be technically competent, detail oriented, highly organized and should possess strong verbal and written skills in order to effectively communicate technical information to the public and work effectively with local, state, and federal agencies. 
Starting salary is market competitive depending upon experience and qualifications.  The Commission offers a competitive benefit package. Application deadline is November 14, 2014.
