The Technical Advisor, Global Initiatives is responsible for providing technical assistance and support to Global Centers of Excellence (GCE’s) YMCAs; as well as other YMCAs. The emphasis on local YMCA support will be in capacity building for newcomer-immigrant and Hispanic/Latino communities. The Technical Advisor leads efforts to strengthen the capacity of local YMCAs to successfully impact diverse communities and integrate global strategies across core operational and programmatic areas of work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Sociology or a similar field is required. Master’s degree is preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience with the YMCA or comparable organization in the areas of capacity building with youth or community development is required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience working with diverse, multicultural communities in the U.S. and/or globally is required. Experience with newcomer-immigrant populations is strongly preferred
  • Must possess proven expertise in cultural competencies and knowledge of immigration and global issues
  • Demonstrated skills in coaching, mentoring and providing technical assistance are required
  • Strong experience with developing educational materials, trainings and grant applications is required
  • Ability to travel domestically 20 - 40% of the time is required
  • Fluency in Spanish language is preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are required
  • Strong relationship-building, presentation and organizational skills are required
  • Intermediate proficiency in computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access,
    PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team is required
  • Must possess excellent time management skills and initiative

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides technical support to local YMCAs to advance newcomer-immigrant outreach in support of newcomer-immigrant strategies
  • Develops resources and tools to strengthen the development and advancement of Global Centers of Excellence (GCE’s) YMCAs and the GCE strategy
  • Assists GCEs and local YMCAs in collaboration with community partners, with an emphasis on newcomer-immigrant engagement, global education and leadership development, global philanthropy and community inclusion and bridge-building
  • Works closely with the Global Centers of Excellence YMCAs to capture best practices and identify existing or new tools
  • Develops and updates communication materials and tools for capturing and communicating impact for local Ys, as well as engaging and expanding services and programs for newcomer-immigrant and diverse, underserved populations
  • Contributes to the development of global leadership training materials, resources and seminars
  • Provides training in a variety of formats to local YMCA’s, networks and state alliance on- site, at conferences and online
  • Identifies and supports new strategies to increase YMCA’s visibility as a welcoming, inclusive and responsive organization to new immigrant community members
  • Supports the integration of diversity and inclusion (D&I) and global efforts into local YMCA strategic priorities that include membership, program innovation, leadership development, collaboration, visibility and financial development
  • Works closely with all relevant YMCA of the USA departments including, Diversity and Inclusion and Training and Leadership with the newcomer-immigrant and GCE work in support of local YMCAs
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Senior Director, Global Initiatives

    EFFECT ON END RESULTS/ STRATEGIC IMPACT
    This position will contribute to the increased engagement of GCE YMCA’s in their commitment to newcomer-immigrant work as well as increased access and inclusion of diverse constituencies in local YMCA’s.
