The beautiful Town of Los Altos Hills is nestled in the scenic hills of northern Santa Clara County adjacent to the cities of Palo Alto and Los Altos. Located thirty-five miles south of San Francisco and seventeen miles north of San Jose, Los Altos Hills retains a distinctive semi-rural atmosphere with large residential lots and expanses of open space. Town Hall is also within a short walking distance to the charming downtown of neighboring Los Altos.
The Planning Director will work closely with and report to the City Manager.  The director manages the Town planning and building staff, consisting of a senior and an assistant planner, the building official and a building technician.  The director will be an effective leader and manager who develops and maintains excellent relationships with the City Council, Planning Commission, Town residents, development professionals and Town staff.  A high level of awareness and sensitivity to the unique dynamics of the Town and the ability to operate in a diplomatic, open and communicative manner will be essential to success in this role.
The director will be an effective verbal and written communicator.  The preferred professional background for this assignment includes five or more years of experience in the areas of planning, public policy and administration with at least two of those years at a management or supervisory level.  A BS/BA in Planning or Public Administration or a closely related field is required.  An advanced degree and AICP is desirable.  The salary range for this position is $120,528 - $162,780 annually, DOQ.  To apply, submit your cover letter, resume, current salary and contact information including email addresses for five work-related references (email preferred) to Paul Kimura by November 7, 2014.
