The Housing Assistant Planner will assist in the administration of the City of Cambridge’s affordable housing programs through which rental and homeownership opportunities are offered to income-eligible households.  The Housing Assistant Planner will be a member of an eleven person team within the Housing Division of the Community Development Department and will work closely with other City staff, non-profit organizations, Cambridge Housing Authority, private housing developers and managers, housing applicants, tenants, and homebuyers. Primary responsibilities include:
Affordable Housing Programs
  • Review of housing applicant eligibility including income certification;
  • Review and annual recertification of tenant eligibility;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with residents, property managers, other service providers;
  • Educate and counsel housing applicants on available housing options;
  • Maintain accuracy of applicant status and manage applicant pools in program management software;
  • Manage tenant selection for available rental units; work with property managers to screen applicants and offer available units to selected applicants;
  • Manage occupancy process and ensure program documentation requirements are satisfied by residents and property owners;
  • Manage housing marketing and outreach efforts, develop marketing and outreach materials for print, web, and social media; attend outreach events to publicize the City’s housing programs;
  • Compile and analyze program data; assist in program evaluation, management, and goal setting;
  • Assist with other City housing programs and special housing projects as needed;
  • Perform other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented and ready to help households  access available affordable homes. 
  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Superior computer skills including demonstrated facility with Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, tasks, and interactions and be organized in a fast-paced office environment;
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of program management teams;  
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum 2 years related professional experience desired
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with affordable housing programs, income and program eligibility review, application management;
  • Ability to explain program information to housing applicants and other service providers and comfort with presenting this information publicly;
  • Experience with program outreach and marketing including use of web and social media;
  • Familiarity with rental housing management software;
  • Ability to assist with data aggregation and program analysis;
  • Knowledge of the Cambridge community;
  • Experience with diverse community groups;
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Haitian/Creole or Portuguese.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Work involves frequent evening meetings, traveling throughout the city to housing locations, driving, waking, and climbing stairs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work involved is primarily indoors in a professional office setting, public meetings to present available opportunities and application process, and visits to building sites, some of which may be under construction.
RATE:  $ 52,650/year + excellent benefits
