Position Description
Arts Alliance Illinois is seeking a research intern to provide support on several key initiatives slated for completion in the coming months. This paid internship will focus largely on the production of a
comprehensive legislative handbook for Alliance members and the development of a large contact list of key sector stakeholders. The research intern may also assist on a number of small ad-hoc projects and tasks to help further the Alliance’s research efforts.

Organization
Arts Alliance Illinois is the state’s leading voice for the arts and arts education, promoting the arts to
everyone in Illinois. We advocate for arts-friendly public policies and increased funding for the arts; we link arts administrators with the tools and partnerships they need to create, educate, and inspire through the arts; and we work to ensure every child in Illinois has access to the arts as part of their public education.

Through research, capacity building, and communication, Arts Alliance Illinois advances widespread
support of all the arts, enhances the health of the arts and cultural sector, and fosters a climate in which the broadest spectrum of artistic expression can flourish.

Arts Alliance Illinois Research Agenda
Arts Alliance Illinois presents research in diverse, accessible formats for policy and advocacy purposes and shares this research with the media, legislators, cultural stakeholders, and the public.

The Alliance’s research:
 takes stock of the strengths and challenges of the arts in Illinois and tracks those over time
 analyzes impacts of current policies
 documents the economic, social, and educational value impacts of the arts

Position qualifications

Strong written communications skills
Excellent organizational and administrative skills
Strength in managing multiple tasks and ensuring quality of work
Comfort working with large datasets
Quick learner, creative thinker
Skills in the use of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint are required, along with a strong proficiency in
Microsoft Excel. A basic understanding of Illinois government and legislative districting is essential.
Knowledge of the arts sector is a plus, but not required.

The time commitment for this position will be 15-20 hours per week.

What would an intern learn?
Arts Alliance Illinois is a national leader in research on the arts sector and cultural policy. The research intern will be treated as a valuable and integrated member of the Alliance team. In addition to gaining a greater understanding of available data and research on the sector, this individual will also see first-hand how a small nonprofit arts organization operates.
