Visiting Research Associate, UIC - Chicago

The Asian American Studies Program and the Department of Disability and
Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago seek highly
qualified and motivated candidates for the position of Research Associate
I. This full-time 6-month academic professional position will report
directly to the Principal Investigator.

*Responsibilities*

This position conducts community-based participatory research and capacity
building and conducts outreach by assisting in data collection, survey
development, and interview protocols; data analysis and summary; and
literature reviews. The associate provides assistance on projects related
to vocational rehabilitation research, policies, and programs that affect
individuals with disabilities. The position also includes assisting in the
supervision of graduate and undergraduate students who are conducting
research.

*Duties/Responsibilities include:*

*Research*

 (a) Conducting literature searches and reviews; (b) helping to design
research instruments (interview protocol, survey questionnaires); (c)
programming and testing of web-based surveys, (d) follow-up, data entry,
and file preparation; (e) assisting with systematic literature reviews and
research implementation; (f) basic qualitative and quantitative data
analysis, writing reports, and administrative tasks such as filing and
copying.

*Outreach and Communication*

(a)* *Communicating effectively both orally and in writing to a variety of
audiences;

(b) Helping to negotiate community-academic research partnerships that
connect Asian American and Pacific Islander communities to vocational
rehabilitation offices in Chicago; (c)* *Improving employment options for
job-seekers; engaging in constructive dialogue and action with community
partners and key stakeholders in nonprofit, city, state, and other
sectors;(d) Helping to evaluate our current outreach initiatives, keeping
track of data-collection activities, and developing reports; (e) Helping
with website development of project activities and outcomes(f) Contributing
to grant writing and the preparation of manuscripts for publication.

*Qualifications*

Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field with at least three to
five years of professional academic experience in the disability arena.
Working knowledge of vocational rehabilitation programs or comparable
experience at another institution. Comfort in working with others in a team
environment.* *Ability to multitask and prioritize. A working knowledge of
Microsoft products, including good command of Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint; knowledge of accessible formats is a plus. Ability to meet
deadlines and work with minimal supervision. Good writing skills, travel,
and ongoing collaborative work with partner agencies are required. Familiarity
with issues of concern in the field of disability policy is preferred.**
