Asst. Redevelopment Planner, Vandewalle & Associates - Madison & Milwaukee, WI
Located near downtown Madison, a fast-paced planning, design, and economic development
firm is seeking an entry-level Assistant Redevelopment Planner to support redevelopment,
economic development, and related projects. Over the past 30 years, Vandewalle & Associates
has assembled a team of experts in the art of shaping Midwestern communities and landscapes
to meet the challenges of our future. The firm has offices in Madison and Milwaukee.
This position supports the work of several project managers in redevelopment and economic
development projects. These projects focus on a wide variety of areas including (but not limited
to) adaptive reuse of historic buildings, brownfields and environmental justice, downtown and
riverfront revitalization, and sustainable economic development in areas such as food systems
and renewable energy. This position will also include opportunities for cross-training to support
a wider array of planning projects including current planning and transportation.
The nature of the position requires a highly-organized, yet flexible individual who can think on
their feet, take direction from several project managers, and work independently in a fastpaced environment. Excellent time management and interpersonal skills are essential.
Requirements of the position include:
• Exposure, familiarity, and interest in urban and regional issues and planning /
implementation approaches
• Excellent research and organizational skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills including ability to adapt
communication/writing style to different audiences
• Interest in project implementation, including supporting frequent project calls/meetings
and maintaining project task lists and timelines
• Experience with quantitative-oriented tasks using spreadsheets and other tools
• Outgoing, creative, and professional personality
• Ability to learn quickly, with flexibility to quickly adapt to new projects and opportunities
• Alignment of professional goals with Vandewalle & Associates’ mission
Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and preferably a master’s degree or approximately
one to three years experience in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, economics,
urban affairs, geography, or related fields.
