Summary This is a research position in the firm’s Analytical Services Division. The Division is currently composed of five professional employees. The firm is charged with the responsibility of generating value-added research materials to financial market clients. The group does fixed income analytics, option valuation, econometrics, regression analysis, and a variety of other activities relating to monetary policy, financial markets, the economy, interest rates, public finance and general research topics. The Division publishes research analytics on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, along with “white papers” that vary in topic and frequency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The successful candidate should have completed a Ph.D. in a social science or communication science. Acceptable background areas include political science, urban studies, economics, finance, business, sociology, and others. The candidate should have demonstrable capacity for deep research, a thirst for learning new areas, strong analytical skills, and strong communication skills. Professional style writing (as opposed to academic style) skills must be advanced. The candidate will be asked to conduct six to ten in depth studies per year, distribute them to our clientele and be capable of discussing findings with clients, media, convention groups, and others. Strong teamwork skills are essential and an ability to work well with people. Fearless capacity to learn is important. American citizenship.

Education and/or Experience
Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science, Urban Studies, Economics, Sociology, Philosophy, or Communication. Reasonable strength in Advanced Excel, basic modeling, and exposure to statistics Strong proficiency in Microsoft Publisher, Word, Adobe, an understanding of data bases and other software as occasioned, etc. Familiarity and interest in finance and economics.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
