JOB SUMMARY:
This position usually performs manual work of an unskilled nature. Work consists of assisting staff in the maintenance and repair of Village infrastructure, buildings, grounds and facilities.  This position may also perform semi-skilled mechanical labor, custodial work, and operating a vehicle.

 

To succeed in this role applicants will need to effectively communicate to people inside and outside the organization and demonstrate self-awareness.  We are looking for a team member that can prioritize requests and responsibilities with accuracy and in safety.

 

JOB DUTIES:
1.    Performs a variety of routine unskilled manual tasks, uses simple tools and carries and wheels heavy material as required.
2.    Performs minor maintenance and custodial work in the care of Village owned buildings, grounds, and facilities.
3.    Performs shop and yard clean-up and organization. Is responsible for the arrangement, location and proper operation of job-related tools and equipment in the shop/yard environment.
4.    Drives a 58,000-pound GVWR truck hauling gravel, fill, or other material or plowing snow, services trucks and other equipment.
5.    Performs Snow and Ice control duties and assists in emergencies such as floods and wind or rainstorms.
6.    Assists in processing and filling material requests and distributions of both fleet and public works related material.
7.    Thorough knowledge of the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practices.
8.    Keeps accurate records of accomplishments.
9.    Performs other tasks and duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.    Education equivalent to a high school diploma.
2.    A minimum of six months of general maintenance or related experience.
3.    Possession of a valid State of Illinois Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within twelve months from date of hire.
4.    Proficiency with current computer technology, job specific software, and customer service systems.

Constituent Services Coordinator - 40th Ward Office Chicago

Title: Constituent Services Coordinator 

Description: The part time Constituent Services Coordinator works with the constituent services team to address a wide range of resident needs. They respond to concerns including city issues and quality of life matters; identifying potential solutions; and serving as a proactive advocate for residents. In addition, they will also manage the 40th Ward’s communications. Mobilization and Base-Building Organizer - Chicago Housing Justice League

Job Title: Mobilization and Base-Building Organizer

The Chicago Housing Justice League seeks a passionate, motivated organizer prepared to help sustain the mission of our coalition. This part-time (20-24 hours per week) position will especially focus on growing the base of impacted tenants and other concerned Chicagoans needed to create meaningful housing policy change. The position is grant-funded for up to a year and is open to renewal as the League secures further funding. This position will also be working in parallel to the League’s existing staff organizer, who will help train and acclimate new staff member to the position.

  • Work with existing staff member, steering committee, and general membership to support ongoing League activities, including political advocacy, tenant outreach, and more.

  • Take notes, draft and send meeting and event invitations/reminders, and follow up from meetings. 

  • Support efforts to host additional programming to educate public on housing justice issues.

  • Grow membership in the League through outreach to community-based and grassroots organizations, especially those from or working in Black/African American neighborhoods. 

  • Devise and execute strategies to ensure those most impacted by housing marginalization are best incorporated into the advocacy work of the Justice League

QUALIFICATIONS: Good oral and written communication skills; experience in project, program or campaign management; experience overseeing and creating content for social media; fluency in Spanish a plus; commitment to the vision and goals of the CHJL strong commitment to and passion for racial justice and racial equity; and prior work or involvement with social and racial justice organizing or advocacy. About N3 

The Northwestern Neighborhood & Network Initiative (N3) is a new research center at Northwestern University that  seeks to engage communities, civic partners, and policy makers in addressing core problems facing the residents of urban  communities. All of our research focuses on utilizing “network thinking” (an understanding of how relationships shape how  we feel and behave) to improve neighborhoods, the city, and our region. We are currently working with partners in Chicago to  evaluate a series of interventions focused on reducing gun violence and improving public safety in the city. Responsibilities 

N3 is looking for a part-time, temporary research assistant (RA) for Spring and Summer 2022, with the possibility to extend  into Fall 2022, to assist on projects related to violence prevention. The RA will perform a variety of important project, data  collection, and analysis activities to support N3, including: 

Performing primarily fieldwork, including conducting observations, interviews, and/or focus groups at community  sites throughout Chicago 

Performing other qualitative research activities, such as taking ethnographic field notes and coding data

Assisting with the preparation of results for memos, spreadsheets, and presentations targeting funders, policymakers,  and academic audiences 

Other administrative tasks or responsibilities as assigned by N3 staff 

The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about and available to work in the field during non-business hours (e.g.,  evenings & weekends).

Research and Data Assistant, The Institute for Housing Studies - Chicago, IL

The Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) is a research center based at DePaul University that provides analysis and data to inform housing-related policy and practice. Created in 2007, the Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) has produced a number of research reports and data products on key housing topics related to the state of affordable housing and the condition of neighborhood housing markets. IHS is engaging in a number of new projects including expanding its housing data clearinghouse beyond Cook County to the Chicago Six County region.

IHS is currently looking to fill a part-time position for a Part-Time Research and Data Assistant. The position will provide mapping and data support for the work of the Institute. Under the guidance of senior staff, the Part-Time Research and Data Assistant will be responsible for collecting, cleaning and assembling a broad range and types of data on housing and community development topics, including both property-level and aggregated data, as well as GIS shape files.

Responsibilities & Duties

·         Collect data from a wide range of sources including the U.S. Census, government, administrative data sets, and proprietary data sets.
·         Clean data so it can be used for research and analysis purposes.
·         Aggregate data and assembling into data sets.

Montgomery Housing Partnership (MHP) is seeking a part-time COMMUNITY OUTREACH COORDINATOR to support the Neighborhoods division in its community outreach initiatives. 
Who we are: Montgomery Housing Partnership, Inc. (MHP) is an active and growing nonprofit organization, founded in 1989, that develops, acquires, rehabilitates, and builds quality apartment homes to meet Montgomery County's growing need for affordable housing. MHP's community-based projects and programs includes providing affordable rents, developing educational programs for residents to develop skills that expand their opportunities and balance their lives, and implementing neighborhood revitalization efforts in troubled communities impacted by foreclosures and economic downturn. 
Summary Job Description: The Community Outreach Coordinator primarily supports MHP's Neighborhoods division. This position works primarily in the field and community, through direct, person to person, resident and property owner outreach and contact within MHP properties, general target area neighborhood properties, and within the context of MHP's Neighborhoods Initiatives. 
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Facilitates, plans and implements community wide-meetings and community building events.
  • Cultivates relationships and partnerships necessary to conduct effective and credible outreach to tenants and residents in MHP communities.
  • Mobilizes community residents around critical neighborhood and County-wide issues.
  • Assists in compiling, summarizing, and analyzing data, as well as in designing process or tools by which to collect the information such as surveys, focus groups, etc.
  • Leads efforts, with management from MHP and other project partners, to engage residents and tenants in understanding tenant rights and responsibilities, to include implementing a consistent and rational process at community outreach, which may include evening or weekend meetings as necessary.
  • Oversees green club programming at selected sites.
  • Assists MHP and partners in developing a broad based collaborative to advocate for policy change around preservation of affordable housing.
  • Translates materials and providing other services outlined above from English to Spanish as needed or directed.
  • Supports projects as assigned to support departmental grants and contracts, including community meetings and events.
  • Attends Glenville Road Interdisciplinary Team (GRIT) meetings and serve as liaison, as needed, between neighborhoods and GRIT committee.
  • Assists the GRIT team in collection of pertinent information (person to person surveys, field observation data, etc.) as well as dissemination of information (flyers, education materials, literature, etc.) as needed.
  • Assists the Asset Management Group with tenant relations.
  • Clearly communicates MHP's mission ensuring every volunteer works toward the same goals.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of related experience in urban planning, community organizing or outreach, and volunteer management. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable. Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities; excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; and appreciation and ability working with a diverse group of individuals is required.
