Spin was known for launching the first stationless mobility program in Seattle, and has since expanded to become the exclusive electric scooter partner in mid-sized cities like Coral Gables, Florida and Lexington, Kentucky, and one of a few permitted scooter operators in large cities like Denver, Detroit, and Washington, D.C. The team embeds in cities and neighborhoods to understand their specific transportation needs, and hires locally from the community.

Spin is seeking an outstanding, analytically-minded urban planner to join our fast-growing, fast-paced team. Based in our Chicago, IL office , the position will work closely with the entire Business Team -- and cross-functionally throughout the company -- to use data, maps and other visualizations to help us launch and scale markets, make the case for safer and more livable streets, and tell a great story around what Spin brings to cities. The ideal candidate is a passionate urbanist with strong quantitative and programming skills, with experience working on practical urban planning or transportation applications.

Provide analytical and mapping support to the Business Team for key strategic and tactical needs around launching and scaling markets. This work might include:
- Developing scooter deployment strategies using geospatial data and ridership trends.
- Analyzing ridership data to inform operational improvements in select markets.
- Understanding the impact of mandated scooter deployment policies on revenue potential.
- Implementing spatial features into Spin’s mobile application through coordination with Spin’s engineering team.
- Acting as liaison between different teams to ensure our strategic scooter deployment strategy is data-driven and well communicated.
- Assisting the Government Partnerships team with packaging data and visualizations into proposals and permit applications.
Source, analyze and visualize data that helps make the case for how scooter-sharing and micromobility can support safer and more livable streets.
Provide analytical and visualization support to other portfolio initiatives within the policy team, such as data privacy and sustainability.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher.
- 2+ years experience of relevant professional experience sourcing, analyzing and visualizing large urban and transportation datasets.
- Highly proficient in ArcGIS/qGISProficient in Adobe Creative Suite applications.
- Proficiency in R/Python and SQL a plus.
- Passionate about improving the experience of transportation in cities.
Nice-to-have:
- Background in urban or transportation planning.
- Engineering experience with setting up pipelines to a variety of public and private datasets, and cleansing these for effective analysis.
- Work experience in transportation organizations with fast-paced operational demands.
