The University of Illinois seeks a Data Analyst to analyze existing information sources and produce reports to assist the decision making of OBFS operational units to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and grow customer satisfaction. The Data Analyst needs to be familiar with data query tools, statistical analysis, and data presentation tools. Additional responsibilities include:
1. Develop reports for executive management, regulatory agencies, audit firms, FOIA requests and compliance assurance; on both a recurring and as-needed basis.

2.  Assimilate, aggregate and query financial data to provide recommendations based on statistical analysis.

3.  Develop and maintain a University financial systems data dictionary.

4.  Monitor data integrity of financial systems and notify appropriate personnel of data impairments.

5.  Assist with financial procurement-related data analysis, including:


     A. analyzing sourcing trends for generating new revenue streams,

     B. conduct market trend research and benchmarking analysis,

     C. support Request-For-Proposal bid teams with pricing analysis and evaluation,

     D. analyze vendor performance including price and discount verifications,

     E. analyze data to determine potential risk exposure,

     F. spend categorization & management,

     G. operational performance measurement.

6.  Assess adequacy of existing data for reporting requests.

7.  Develop solutions for automating complex repeatable queries that normalize and cleanse data.

8.  Assist customers with troubleshooting technical issues, conducting queries and retrieving data from various systems.

9.  Work with other OBFS and university-wide units responsible for systems management to obtain, understand, and interface financial data.

10.  Serve on University, campus, and departmental committees/teams as required.

11.  Research industry best practices in data mining and financial regulatory data requirements.

Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in statistics, information systems, business administration or a related field with two years of professional experience in financial reporting, data analysis, information technology, statistical analysis, or business administration.  Other requirements include:  experience in SAS programming language; knowledge and experience with one or more of the following technical data query and reporting tools: including but not limited to: Oracle PL/SQL, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft SharePoint, Quest Toad, and SAP Business Objects; knowledge and experience with statistical analysis techniques; ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations; ability to write complex financial reports, business correspondence, and procedure documents; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of colleagues, vendors, management, and auditors; ability to work independently or as part of the team to meet goals and objectives of each project; strong interpersonal skills that reflect courtesy, diplomacy, and a collaborative approach to develop and maintain effective work relationships; ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and discretion in the performance of all work assignments; ability to multi-task and prioritize work accordingly to meet deadlines while staying on task with daily assignments; excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with University and departmental officials/staff.

Preferred qualifications include: knowledge on Ellucian Banner Finance ERP system; knowledge on Jaggaer eProcurement software; knowledge on University of Illinois EDW data warehouse; functional knowledge of procurement and contract management procedures; familiarity with Illinois Procurement Code; experience in public sector, within, or in support of a financial operation; NIGP Certified Public Procurement Buyer (CPPB) certification.

Supervision and Regulation Department: Consumer Compliance Division

The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is searching for highly qualified candidates for an immediate opening for a Supervision Analyst to conduct data driven activities in support of supervisory objectives. Ideal candidates will have knowledge of housing, economic, and demographic data and sources, analytic skills including basic programming and query design knowledge and commitment to consumer protection. The position will be based in our landmark office in Chicago’s Financial District.

Job Summary


The Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago plays a key role in supervising compliance with consumer protection laws for banks within the Seventh District and for the largest bank holding companies regulated by the Federal Reserve. Within the Supervision and Regulation Department, the Supervision Analyst team is responsible for collecting, compiling and disseminating data in support of individual and portfolio supervisory activity. Furthermore, the Supervision Analyst team is responsible for developing intelligence on trends, risks, and data to inform supervisory and policy development throughout the Federal Reserve System.

The Supervision Analyst will work with data sources and portfolio managers to assist in the use of data driven supervision efforts for consumer protection laws. The position will work closely with other Consumer Compliance Supervision Analysts, as well as Consumer Compliance Risk Specialists to build data for use in supervisory exams and activity, create workflows, enhance procedures, and identify emerging institutional and/or portfolio level risks. This position will work with the following (although not limited to) data sources: institutional loan level data, HMDA, Small Business (CRA) and census data, and internal supervisory or regulatory databases. This position also requires the ability to produce and analyze maps.

Essential Duties
  • Develop materials to support exam activities that are accurate, quality-based, procedurally compliant and timely
  • Provide consultative activities to portfolio managers and examiners-in-charge with regards to data for exam specific activities
  • Identify and craft automated solutions for data and workflow processes, while continuing to assume ownership for procedural documents and processes
  • Collaborate to identify additional reporting needs and execute on building and delivering materials to portfolio managers, as well as senior level management
  • Develop and maintain strong ongoing relationships with supervisory personnel within the business line, division and across Reserve Banks
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Coursework in Economics, Finance, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Business Administration preferred
  • Over three years of direct work-related experience.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Experience with SQL and or SAS preferred
  • Strong Excel Skills, including automation of routine functions, VBA a plus
  • Knowledge of GIS
  • Ability to work with external data, curate division data resources and compile new data sets
  • Knowledge of SharePoint, experience with WorkFlows or NinTex a plus.

CRIME ANALYST, Milwaukee Police Department - Milwaukee, WI

PURPOSE

THE PURPOSE of this position is to collect, collate, analyze, disseminate, and evaluate crime data to discover developing trends, patterns, and changes in criminal activity, using mapping and other analytical software. The Crime Analyst works within the Office of Management Analysis and Planning of the Milwaukee Police Department. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Produce information related to crime trends to assist the department’s operational and administrative personnel in preventing and suppressing criminal activities, aiding the investigative process, increasing apprehension of offenders and clearing cases. 
  • Prepare data used to make recommendations on manpower deployment and resource allocation. 
  • Maintain statistical reports that detail the results of analysis, conclusions, and recommendations; prepare periodic statistical reports for department commanders.   
  • Measure and forecast long-term public safety activity related to problem solving, intervention, and crime reduction efforts. 
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data received from various departmental units and other law enforcement agencies. 
  • Maintain proficiency with GIS software and crime analysis methods and tools.  
  • Analyze crime information, statistical data, reports and documents from Federal, State and local law enforcement agencies. 
  • Assist members of the department, elected officials and community members in obtaining data from systems to which they have access.   
  • Train department members on access to and analysis of data.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1.  Bachelor’s Degree in an academic field similar to the above from an accredited college or university AND at least two years of experience conducting research using complex statistical analysis and statistical computer programs. 
2.  Experience with the use of statistical computer programs, such as SPSS or SAS and experience working with GIS software, computer databases, relational databases, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office.   
3.  Valid driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment. 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Geography, Public Policy, Public Administration, or other related fields of study with a concentration in statistics, research methods, intermediate or higher quantitative or qualitative methods from an accredited college or university.  
  • Knowledge of law enforcement computer systems (i.e., RMS, CAD).        
  • IACA certification desirable.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data and statistics using quantitative and qualitative methodology. 
  • Ability to prepare and present complex statistical reports.

  • Ability to exercise judgment and discretion in completing assigned tasks. 
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing to effectively prepare and present findings to Command-level officers and other local, State and Federal law enforcement officials.

CURRENT SALARY

The current starting salary (2GN) is $54,251 for residents of the City of Milwaukee, appointment above the minimum is possible up to $63,097 with approval. The annual starting salary is $52,170 for non-Milwaukee residents, with appointment above the minimum is possible up to $60,676 with approval.  

SELECTION PROCESS

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods. The Milwaukee Police Department reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.   Persons offered employment must pass a background investigation, medical examination and a pre-employment drug test as a condition of employment.

Created in 2007, the Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) has produced a number of research reports and data products on key housing topics related to the state of affordable housing and the condition of neighborhood housing markets. IHS is engaging in a number of new projects including expanding its housing data clearinghouse beyond Cook County to the Chicago Six County region.

IHS is currently looking to fill a part-time position for a Part-Time Research and Data Assistant. The position will provide mapping and data support for the work of the Institute. Under the guidance of senior staff, the Part-Time Research and Data Assistant will be responsible for collecting, cleaning and assembling a broad range and types of data on housing and community development topics, including both property-level and aggregated data, as well as GIS shape files.
