POSITION DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: OHCS
POSITION TITLE: Housing Planning Intern
REPORTS TO: Director and Assistant Director

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), through its Office of Housing Coordination Services (OHCS), provides overall coordination and staffing for the development of both the State’s annual federally – and State-required housing plans and performance reports. OHCS also administers the Affordable Housing Planning and Appeal Act, regularly represents IHDA on a number of public advisory groups, and operates a housing information clearinghouse. It also provides related technical assistance and research as needed on a variety of areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in carrying out research and analysis of housing foreclosure prevention and mitigation strategies, inventory of programs and resources, and related areas.
  2. Assist in identifying opportunities to affirmatively further fair housing through IHDA’s existing programs and resources, as well as external strategies.
  3. Assist senior OHCS staff in the implementation of local referral agency program targeting to provide housing to supportive housing populations.
  4. Assist in responding to information requests as assigned (e.g. letters from the Governor’s Office of Citizens Assistance, OHCS housing information clearinghouse, and legislative impact notes).
  5. Assist in preparation for meetings, conferences, workshops and mailings related to OHCS business, including preparation meeting packages, and attending, drafting minutes, and possibly speaking at said meetings.
  6. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:

  • Bachelor’s Degree seeking students in Urban Planning field, Graduate students preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal skills. Able to build effective relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Proficient PC skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills - Ability to convey information in the appropriate style and setting both within written form and public speaking environments both internal/external.
