Family Reunification Specialist * International Youth, Residential Setting

Location: Des Plaines

Heartland Alliance
Youth & Residential Services Division

About us: Since 1995, our Unaccompanied Youth programs have served boys and girls from all over the world. Fostering an atmosphere of family and security, we attend to the emotional, legal, medical, educational, and recreational needs of the children until they can be reunited with their families either in the U.S. or in their home country. The children have a range of needs from very basic care and services, to more intensive mental health and behavioral treatment.

Family Reunification Specialists are based at our residential facilities and are responsible for collecting and assessing information related to a child’s family through interviewing the children and their families, and by reviewing documents from police, Child Protective Services and other agencies; researching, assessing and recommending family reunification options for youth; and for collaborating with the Office of Refugee Resettlement, and other stakeholders. Family Reunification Specialists also work in a youth care worker/mentor role in the milieu on a regular basis.
