Job Description

General Summary:
The Instructional Technology Consultant (1) will report to the Director of SNL Online in the School for New Learning. The incumbent will be responsible for designing and revising hybrid courses for the School for New Learning’s competence-based programs, in conjunction with a team of campus directors, faculty, content experts, and relevant staff. This position will work with SNL staff to coordinate course administration, faculty development, and other processes, including promoting academic quality enhancements and sharing best practices in hybrid course design and assessment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Work with campus directors, faculty and staff to develop hybrid competence based courses, aimed at adults, in accordance with SNL’s vision and philosophy about student learning, assessment standards, and course design in the graduate and undergrad programs of SNL.
  • Apply SNL hybrid and online processes and templates to ensure quality control and consistency.
  • Work with faculty and staff to improve courses over time based on course assessment data.
  • Work with faculty to design visual and multimedia into hybrid courses, and to integrate new technologies where appropriate.
  • Learn and apply new instructional or course development technologies for hybrid and online instruction.
  • Coordinate with other SNL staff to support best practices in course design and delivery.
  • Work with administrative structures and practices to support courses and faculty, integrate technologies, and provide training for instructors and student users.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in instructional design, instructional or educational technology, or a related field, or demonstrated evidence of extensive professional work as an instructional designer.
  • Two to three years of instructional design experience in distance education.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to negotiate and influence others.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with web applications, including Dreamweaver, as well as course development management systems.
  • Ability to learn information technologies, such as: Camtasia and Voice Tools to create online course components.
  • Knowledge of post-secondary educational pedagogy.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team setting.
  • Ability to adapt to change and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property issues concerning online materials.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime to meet deadlines.

Preferred Requirements:
Experience with hybrid course design and assessment.
Experience with post-secondary education.
