The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is seeking to hire an Energy Assistant to work with Energy Impact Illinois. The Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) is the region’s official comprehensive planning organization. Its GO TO 2040 planning campaign is helping the region’s seven counties and 284 communities to implement strategies that address transportation, housing, economic development, open space, the environment, and other quality of life objectives. Position Description:
The Energy Policy Assistant would assist the Energy Impact Illinois program with administration, organization, and development tasks, which are outlined below. Energy Impact Illinois is an alliance of CMAP, utility companies, government agencies, and citizen advocacy groups.

The following are the essential functions:
  • Assist with administrative duties relating to Energy Impact Illinois (EI2) including meeting scheduling, invoicing, updating the program book, etc.
  • Organize and manage all EI2 files and maintain up to date records of grantee progress and documentation.
  • Develop daily and/or weekly energy news updates.
  • Write case studies for successful retrofits within EI2 (i.e. a local school, or a completed multi-family building).
  • Attend and prepare memos on all Better Buildings webinars.
  • Identify and suggest best practices for EI2 to implement (through research of other Better Buildings programs or case studies)
  • Other responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Highly motivated and organized individual with demonstrated project coordination skills.
  • Confidence in dealing with a diverse range of individuals and organizations.
  • Ability to communicate program objectives and goals.
  • The successful candidate should have familiarity with energy and environmental policy, grant administration, public administration, public policy and planning.

Education and Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is preferred in a social science discipline or equivalent with
emphasis on energy and the environment.
