Vice President of Asset Risk Management - The National Equity Fund
The National Equity Fund, Inc. (NEF), the largest non-profit syndicator of low-income housing tax credits, is seeking a Vice President of Asset Risk Management and Credit to manage a team of professionals responsible for a portfolio of troubled projects which may require; significant restructuring or refinancing of debt, additional NEF funding, sale or dissolution of an asset, resolution of partnership issues or replacement of a general partner and substitution of a NEF affiliate as managing or joint partner. Conduct and assist staff in conducting negotiations with general partners, lenders and other parties to workout transactions. Evaluate workout strategies for investment properties as developed by staff. Manage early and post Year-15 dispositions. Maintain hands-on responsibility as needed for more challenging projects. Recommend course of action to senior management and ensure appropriate level of approvals are received in order to implement strategies. Follow workout activities through closing and implementation. Oversee management of properties in which NEF is the general partner through an affiliate. Review new investment proposals prior to presentation to Investment Review Committee to ensure transaction risks are properly identified and mitigated to the extent possible.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate or related field. Master’s degree is preferred along with minimum of ten years experience in real estate development and/or finance, asset management, portfolio management and /or real estate workouts. Experience in a community development is desirable. Knowledge of, and practical experience in, management and/or financing of multifamily rental housing, working with low-income housing tax credit program or government housing subsidy programs and with community development corporations is preferred. Strong managerial skills are a requirement along with a positive attitude, and the ability and willingness to provide motivation to staff in the achievement of corporate and departmental goals in a team environment. This position also requires strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical capabilities, effective negotiation, and creative problem-solving.
