Job Description
Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Fellow with expertise in the field of postsecondary education to work with a team of researchers in developing and leading a program of research. The individual will serve as principal investigator, providing the intellectual and scientific framework for a program of policy relevant research with responsibility for conceiving, developing and implementing individual studies within the program. The Research Fellow is expected to develop and sustain both sources of project funding and a network of partners, including other public policy researchers as well as key community, funding and policy stakeholders, to develop and carry out policy and practice-relevant research. The Research Fellow will play a key role in managing Chapin Hall’s talent, which includes coaching and mentoring research staff and serving as a “talent scout” for individuals at all levels of expertise who could be potential candidates for Chapin Hall employment.

Job Requirements

Ph.D. in higher education, economics, public policy, social sciences, sociology or other relevant field required.

A minimum of seven years experience conceiving, developing and directing research studies required; national standing as an intellectual leader in field of postsecondary education, especially as it relates to employment/labor market outcomes, and a successful track record of independently generating funded research required; experience partnering with key community, funding, and policy stakeholders in the development and carrying out of research studies required; experience supervising and mentoring research staff strongly preferred.

Knowledge of the recent literature and research in postsecondary education required, preferably regarding how education leads to employment/labor market outcomes, access, retention, and completion; entrepreneurial, with a strong interest and talent for engaging effectively with a diverse group of high level community and foundation stakeholders in achieving desired outcomes required; flexibility, creativity, and the ability to contribute at both strategic and tactical levels required; a collaborative, team-oriented approach in working required.
