Description:

Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) focuses on was public health efforts to improve nutrition, increase physical activity, and reduce obesity-four critical actions to combat chronic disease and promote health. Over $16 million dollars was awarded to San Diego County's Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) as part of a comprehensive HHS prevention and wellness initiative funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act). HHSA has contracted with UC San Diego, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Child Development and Community Health to oversee six nutrition interventions. Additionally, the Division was awarded a grant to complete evaluation focusing on biometrics, the feasibility and implementation of putting BMI on the immunization registry and validating accelerometers with observation of physical activity of elementary school aged children. The postdoctoral fellow will work under the direction of Dr. Sheila Gahagan, Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician and NIH-Funded investigator in child obesity research and Michelle Zive, M.S., R.D., the Principal Investigator of the UC San Diego CPPW nutrition interventions. The fellowship project will involve the development of an evaluation for the CDC-funded Communities Putting Prevention to Work Project. The post-doctoral fellow will play a key role in overseeing data collection. The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to manage data files, analyze data, and prepare reports in addition to writing hypothesis-driven research papers for publication. We will also mentor the post-doctoral fellow in grant writing to continue our capacity to study this project after the end of the current funding cycle.
