Job Description
Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago is seeking an individual to support researchers and data processing staff through establishing efficient data archiving and retrieval processes. The Data Archivist will comprehensively document research data and prototypical analyses, especially those associated with administrative data from human services systems and public agencies. The individual will prepare data for the archive and assist researchers in accessing archive and research data. The Data Archivist will also consult with researchers on archiving data, in order to learn both about the use of the data and provide them with tools for extracting it.

Job Requirements

-Advanced degree in the social sciences, public policy, sociology or other relevant field required.

-Minimum of two years experience with data archiving and retrieval preferred.

-Experience working in a Unix environment and using SAS, SPSS and STATA program languages preferred.

-Knowledge of database management software with a basic understanding of relational database design and theory required.

-Knowledge of statistics required.

-Familiarity with administrative data preferred.

-Knowledge of human services, health, education and/or workforce development systems and policies preferred.

-Problem-solving skills required.

-Strong attention to detail with good organization skills required.

-Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing skills, required.

-Demonstrated capacity for working in a collaborative research environment required.

-Ability to work independently required.
