Job Description
The Office of Health Policy in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation is seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary in its Office of Health Policy. The Associate Deputy is the senior career official in the Office of Health Policy and the position is designated as Senior Executive Service. The Associate Deputy oversees a staff of approximately 30 career staff with diverse backgrounds in health economics, health policy, medicine and other areas. He or she works closely with the Deputy Assistant Secretary in developing the Office’s research and policy agenda and with the Assistant Secretary and other Senior Staff on the Department’s Planning and Evaluation agenda.
Job Requirements
He or she works closely with the Deputy Assistant Secretary in developing the Office’s research and policy agenda and with the Assistant Secretary and other Senior Staff on the Department’s Planning and Evaluation agenda. The ideal candidate would have expertise in at least one of the following: Public and private health insurance, health delivery and financing, or public health issues. He or she would also have significant management experience, with at least some experience managing within government.
The Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation is the principal advisor to the Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services on policy development, and is responsible for major activities in policy coordination, legislation development, strategic planning, policy research, evaluation, and economic analysis. The Office of Health Policy is responsible for the office’s health-related policy development and analysis, the development of health-related regulations and legislation, and implementation of the Affordable Care Act.
