Internship Overview:
The intern will assist Feeding Illinois in increasing its visibility throughout the state and in building capacity to effectively engage in education, advocacy and outreach to support the food bank network’s mission of increasing access to quality, nutritious food for hungry people.

Internship Responsibilities:
 Assist with managing Feeding Illinois’ Legislative Advocacy Working Group, which is made up of staff from the eight member food banks, located throughout the state
 Help organize and implement an annual statewide conference to end hunger during Hunger Awareness Day in Springfield. This will include working with food bank and member agency representatives to develop the programming and written materials for the conference, and managing the online registration.
 Assist with scheduling and coordination of outreach to statewide elected officials.
 Monitor relevant federal and state legislation impacting the work of Feeding Illinois 2010-2011. Key issues will likely include appropriations for federal nutrition programs, the 2012 Farm Bill, and state funding for food banks.
 Assist in implementing communications strategy, including writing and posting content to Feeding Illinois’ website and social media sites.

Qualifications:
Desired qualifications include current status as a graduate student studying Public Policy, Social Service Administration, or Public Health; completion of one relevant internship or equivalent experience; strong writing and communications skills; facility with social media; creativity and self-motivation.

Time Frame:
This position runs January 2011 – June 2011 and a minimum of 20-25 hours/week is desired. The individual in this position must be available to work March 22 and 23, 2011 to assist with the 2011 Feeding Illinois Annual Conference in Springfield, IL.

This internship is located at 4100 W Ann Lurie Place, Chicago, and reports to the State Director. Hours are flexible, and the internship is paid.
