Public Policy and Research Specialist

I. PRIMARY WORK FUNCTION:
The Public Policy and Research Specialist assists with the development and implementation of public policy initiatives and research projects. Also works in consultation with the Director of Finance, Information and Administration on public policy, program and research projects. The Public Policy and Research Specialist plays a key strategic role in fostering relationships with individuals, community organizations, and state and local government agencies.
II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.
1. Assists with developing research projects, programs, and public policy to address the well-being of African-American children, families and communities.
2. Assists with writing research and program grants.
3. Disseminates research findings and serves as a research consultant to community-based and advocacy organizations.
4. Assists with analyzing, monitoring, and tracking public policy and legislative trends, attitudes and issues that affect the social and economic well-being of the African-American community.
5. Plans and convenes town meetings, conduct trainings and public forums to solicit and share information on economic and social indicators.
6. Serves on and provides leadership to select committees, work groups, project teams, and relevant external organizations.
7. Assists in the development of annual reports, newsletters, brochures and other reports.
III. EDUCATION:
REQUIRED: Master’s Degree in Public Health, Social Work or Public Policy; Minimum 2-4 years of research, public policy and human service practice expertise. Minimum 2-4 years of demonstrated management experience. History of developing and implementing social service programs. Knowledgeable of research, evaluation, and public policy methods. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, writing, and administrative skills. Ability to travel frequently.
DESIRED: Previous experience conducting research, managing projects and leading a research team.
