Faculty Position in Public Administration, Assistant or Associate Rank
The Department of Urban Studies and Public Administration, in the College of Business and Public Administration at Old Dominion University, invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate rank. The Department offers a NASPAA-accredited MPA program, a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Urban Policy, and an undergraduate minor in Public Service.

The minimum requirement for this position is completion of the Ph.D. degree in Public Administration or related field. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated potential in research and publications in public procurement and related fields. Field of specialization is public procurement, contract management, procurement ethics, project management, contract and procurement law, negotiation, or other related area. The selected candidate will also be expected to teach courses in the core MPA and PhD programs. Additional research interests, which may include any area spanning the boundaries of the public, private and non-profit sectors, will be an asset. For candidates hired at the associate level, assumption of departmental administrative duties on a rotating basis is expected.
The Department plans to offer a Certificate program in Contract Management and Public Procurement and the candidate is expected to develop and manage the certificate program that includes some online course offerings. The selected candidate is expected to demonstrate enthusiasm for working in a multi- and interdisciplinary environment that demands excellence in scholarship and teaching and encourages engagement in important problems. The candidate is expected to develop and maintain research and service ties with the local, regional and national professional procurement communities.

Old Dominion University is a state-supported, Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive University with over 23,000 students. The University is located in Norfolk, Virginia, the hub of the Hampton Roads metropolitan area with a population of approximately 1.6 million. As a major recreation area known for its beaches, historical landmarks, and the Chesapeake Bay, the Hampton Roads Region also profits from its proximity to Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Federal, state, and local governments represent approximately a third of the region’s total employment. Boasting the largest naval base in the world, Hampton Roads also accommodates major Army and Air Force commands.
