The Baltimore City Department of Planning (DoP) is seeking a Research & Strategic Planner/ Demographic Specialist to undertake demographic and GIS analysis in our Research and Strategic Planning Division.
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the collection, analysis, and reporting of data and research on demographic and socioeconomic trends and their implications for the DoP and City of Baltimore using a broad range of data sources, including census and ACS data.
  • Develops maps and geospatial databases for use in plans, reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Provides programming assistance, produces tables, figures, and graphs on area demographic trends, and writes and edits short articles for web and print publications on demographic trends.

Job Summary
Help save the past to enrich the future!   The National Trust for Historic Preservation is the nationally recognized leader of a movement to save America’s historic places and revitalize our older neighborhoods.  You can be a part of that mission by helping the National Trust engage practitioners and the general public with compelling data that inspires them to take action on behalf of endangered places that represent our diverse cultural heritage.  The GIS Analyst’s primary role will be to facilitate usage of GIS across the organization and to bring it into the everyday work of the National Trust. The GIS Analyst will work with each division of the National Trust to identify needs, develop solutions, build staff capacity and help design workflows and best practices related to GIS applications and geospatial data. This position will administer the National Trust’s ArcGIS online account (AGOL), manage data created by the National Trust, and respond to technical issues. This position will be responsible for developing training materials and providing routine trainings to staff on tools of potentially broad applicability, like basic web map creation and story maps. The GIS analyst will provide technical support to efforts to increase the availability of high-quality cultural resource survey data and support National Treasures work through development of appropriate GIS applications such as viewshed analyses or other visualizations. Other responsibilities of this position include potentially supporting a Historic Sites GIS pilot project, exploring the feasibility and development of a fee-for-service model, and supporting our partners by developing and presenting outside trainings.
The preferred candidate will be comfortable working in teams and collaborating across divisions. This is a new position, and the candidate will need to be a self-starter that approaches the job with a problem-solving mindset and be interested in the challenge of supporting the growth of the National Trust’s technical capacity over time.
DUTIES
  • Technical administration of the ArcGIS Online platform: adding users, setting groups and permissions, defining the gallery content, advising on data quality and publication, and generally supporting users with technical guidance.
  • Developing solutions for the needs of NTHP departments and partners for GIS implementation.
  • Coordinating data production and compilation and reporting on data quality and currency, production of metadata as needed and organizing databases for consumption by the Trust’s GIS users.
  • Coordination of data field technology (GPS, mobile devices, deployment support).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in geography, geographic information systems, or related field
