GIS Specialist, Village of Montgomery, IL

The Village of Montgomery is seeking applicants wishing to fill the new position of GIS Specialist. Reporting to the Director of Community Development, the GIS Specialist will lead the development, coordination, implementation, maintenance and support of a Village-wide Geographic Information Systems (GIS) program and enhance utilization of GIS across all departments.

The Village is seeking a dependable, motivated, and highly organized team player with a proven record of attention to detail and integrity. The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree with major course work in GIS, geography, computer science, information technology, or closely related field.
  • Have at least four (4) years of GIS experience in GIS Analyst or similar position, Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) preferred.
  • Be able to apply principles and procedures as they relate to GIS within municipal environments.
  • Have considerable knowledge of GIS Software including ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Hub and Web Apps and publishing services to AGOL, ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Server REST API or comparable software platforms.
  • Have basic knowledge of Python, HTML and Arcade expression code languages.
  • Ability to deploy and migrate existing data in ArcGIS solutions.
  • Have the ability to communicate and work effectively with other employees and contractors, providing technical support and training as necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments and consultants to ensure the village-wide GIS system is meeting the needs of the departments.


Starting pay for the GIS Specialist position is $29.86 hourly ($62,109 annually). Annual pay increases are merit based.
