The City of Bellevue is looking for an innovative and strategic long-range planner to lead our Comprehensive Planning Section. This position is responsible for leading a team of professional planners in projects that set the stage for the City’s future development. It also serves as liaison and chief staff support for the City’s Planning Commission.
Chief duties include the following:
- Leads and manages professional planning staff engaged in the City’s comprehensive planning initiatives
- Facilitates and manages staff support for the City’s Planning Commission
- Leads and conducts project management for comprehensive planning initiatives
- Provides City departments with expert advice in development of policies and plans
- Engages the public as active participants in the planning process
The successful candidate will have a solid track record in the development of public policies and plans, an expert level of competence in municipal planning practice, advanced skills in building relationships, solid experience in leading a team of professionals, a demonstrated ability to think strategically, a commitment to high performance, and a passion for innovation.
The Department of Planning and Community Development The Planning and Community Development Department guides growth and change in Bellevue to enhance the character of the community; helps to create a quality natural and built environment; and works in partnership with residents to address their interests and preserve strong, healthy neighborhoods. The Comprehensive Planning Section is responsible for maintaining and updating the City’s Comprehensive Plan, the City’s primary policy framework.
The Section also leads an array of planning initiatives that further the above objectives. Among the Section’s current initiatives are the following:
- Downtown Livability Initiative -- updating the Land Use Code and design guidelines for the city center
- Eastgate/I-90 Corridor Implementation – Code amendments to create a more economically and environmentally sustainable future for this commercial corridor
- Station Area Planning – integrated land use and transportation planning for the six major East Link light rail stations in Bellevue
- Housing Strategy – development of a detailed action plan to further housing affordability for very low, low, and moderate income households
- Subarea Planning – updating of neighborhood plans to manage growth and change in a manner consistent with community values
- Wilburton Special Opportunity Area/Grand Connection – development of a vision for the future of this key opportunity area at the edge of Downtown Bellevue, and its integration with the “Grand Connection” bridging between Downtown and the Eastside Rail Corridor.
