The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture at Auburn University, a comprehensive land-grant and research institution, seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor for an appointment in the Master of Landscape Architecture program commencing August 2016.
The School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture (APLA) at Auburn University at Auburn has a 100 year history of educating architects, interior architects, landscape architects and planners; and of contributing to the region and the profession through outreach, scholarship and creative work. The School has four allied degree programs: Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Interior Architecture, Master of Landscape Architecture, and Master of Community Planning. APLA resides in the College of Architecture Design and Construction along with the departments of Building Science and Industrial Design.
The Auburn Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) is an accredited two year, six semester program. It is a research-informed, design-lead program dedicated to opening up new spaces of critical landscape discourse and practice. The program educates students in the generation of resilient cultural and social practices through the cultivation of adaptive urban and environmental design strategies.
Responsibilities of the appointment include teaching, research and/or outreach at a graduate level. The successful candidate will be required to maintain an active scholarly program disseminated through appropriate disciplinary, peer-reviewed venues; and funding is available to support these activities. Successful applicants will teach studios and courses in one or more of the following topic areas: history and theory of landscape architecture and contemporary issues in landscape architecture. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Candidates must have a Master of Landscape Architecture degree, or a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture plus a terminal degree in a related field. Preferred qualifications include: evidence of outstanding design skills, experience in professional practice and teaching, professional registration, and advanced degrees in Landscape Architecture, or related design or planning fields. The successful candidate will be a creative designer whose work is grounded in the problems of contemporary practice, and investigates current issues through techniques that can be translated to the graduate studio setting.
