The Collaborative Firm, LLC, a land use planning and real estate development firm based in East Point, GA, is seeking a qualified Senior Planner to join our team of professionals.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plans, monitors, manages and administers urban and regional planning project activities.
  • Prepares planning, zoning and land use documents such as staff reports, text amendments, comprehensive plans, planning studies, zoning ordinances, and technical review comments.
  • Field planning and zoning calls and provide assistance at a zoning help desk.
  • Prepare zoning verification letters.
  • Technical review of development applications (site plan, rezoning, variance, conditional use, etc.)
  • Conduct site visits.
  • Assist in the preparation of zoning ordinances, comprehensive planning studies, and other planning documents.
  • Administer and interpret local zoning ordinances, zoning maps, comprehensive plans and future land use maps.
  • Review and approval of business licenses, certificates of occupancy, and various permits. Planning, land use, data collection, and analysis.
  • Preparation of land use assessments and zoning analyses.
  • Prepares memos, detailed analytical documents, management reports, and project status reports in order to communicate program success, explain complicated ideas, and describe complex projects.
  • Facilitation of public meetings, including community meetings, visioning exercises, character preference surveys and design charrettes.
  • Interprets zoning codes and advises individuals and project representatives on the process or other actions requiring application reviews.
  • Reads and interprets site plans, building elevations, landscaping plans, and legal descriptions for accurate representation on zoning maps.
  • Develops, upgrades, and/or reviews zoning ordinance procedures.
  • Preparation and presentation of information to elected and appointed boards and authorities, local government staff and citizens.

  • Knowledge of the land development and site development processes
  • Knowledge of consensus building techniques among board members, stakeholders and the community as a whole
  • Proficient decision-making skills
  • Proving track record and ability to meet time sensitive deadlines
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include:
  1. At least 7 years of professional land-use planning, community development, zoning administration, public sector community relations, including 3 years of management/administrative experience in local government;
  2. A bachelor’s degree in city and urban planning, urban design, community development, landscape architecture, architecture or a related field;
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience as a Planning and Zoning Manager, a master’s degree and experience in municipal government is highly desired.
