We are seeking a designer for our Berkeley office that is passionate, creative, energetic, and deeply committed to producing design and planning work that shapes and improves communities. We have a fast-paced office filled with employees that can multi-task. The position’s workload will vary and will include designing, drawing, writing, mapping, research, and some small-scale web development. Projects include streetscape and neighborhood plans, graphic design projects, large scale transit-oriented development plans, and downtown plans.
Responsibilities:
- Help develop polices and design guidelines related to the built environment.
- Create urban design and planning concepts for different types of development.
- Assist in 3D modeling and rendering using SketchUp.
- Conceptualize and create branding packages for clients including logos, documents, and layouts.
- Assist in WordPress development and web administration.
- Research urban design and planning issues, including urban design best practices.
- Understand and design improvements to bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
- Design and prepare illustrative and graphic materials, including GIS maps, to communicate ideas in documents, presentations, and at community meetings.
- Edit, layout, and produce work products for client and public review.
- Assist at community meetings by preparing meeting materials, taking notes, and facilitating small group discussions.
Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
- Writing proficiency is required.
- Experience in WordPress, HTML, and web development is required.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS is desired, but not required.
- Architecture and hand drawing skills are desired, but not required.
- Spanish is desired.
Education and Experience:
- 2 years of related experience performing the responsibilities listed above.
- Degree in City & Regional Planning, Urban Design, or related field.
