Transportation Planner, DAMA Consultants Inc. - Chicago, IL

Job Description for Transportation Planner
Duties of a transportation planner include the development, analysis and recommendations of improvements for transportation systems.
The basic duties and responsibilities include the following:
1.     Transportation research and data collection.
2.     Record methods, processes, source data, and results in a concise functional format and reviews completed results prior to dissemination.
3.     Report results, methods, progress, and research using data visualization, presentations, mapping, and desktop publishing software.
4.     Technical analysis of transportation data and information utilizing available software to form the basis for future recommendations.
5.     Impact analysis to support alternative modes of transportation and address long and short term issues.
6.     Regular meetings with clients and agencies with a high level of interaction skills.
7.     Perform responsible professional and administrative related duties as required.
The Transportation Planner reports to the project manager, project engineer and senior planner for any involved study or any junior personnel as directed by the project manager. Job advancement is possible for this position.
Qualifications:
1)     Education and/or Experience
Master degree (MS) in transportation, engineering, geography, planning, economics, or a relevant social science.  Three years of relevant work experience is preferred.
2)     Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

a.     Strong writing and presentation skills.
b.     Possess strong quantitative and interpretive abilities.
c.     Proficiency in MS Excel spreadsheet, MS Access, relational databases, and ArcGIS.
d.     Experience with statistical analysis packages, regional economic and freight/commodity flow databases, econometric and input/output models, and travel demand models is a plus.
e.     Experience with Adobe Create Suite or Adobe Creative Cloud, desktop publishing, presentation software, and data visualization is a plus.
