Senior Project Manager, Community Planning and Design, Hester Street Collaborative - New York City, NY

Senior Project Manager – Community Planning and Design

HSC is currently seeking an experienced planning and design professional, passionate about equitable development, to help plan and implement community-driven planning, design and development projects in New York and nationwide. This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated and creative self-starter who welcomes work in a collaborative environment.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of community planning and/or design projects inside and outside NYC;
  • Collaborate with community-based organization partners on project development;
  • Research & identify national & international best practices of innovative community design and development;
  • Facilitate community planning and design workshops, and train workshop facilitators;
  • Work with HSC design team to develop innovative community engagement tools;
  • Work closely with architects, designers, evaluation experts and other consultants to ensure timely & high quality completion of tasks;
  • Identify new community design opportunities – both in terms of partnerships and funding;
  • Research, identify & prepare funding proposals & reports for funders;
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Urban Design or related field;
  • 5-7 years planning and/or design experience primarily working in low-income communities or with community-based organizations;
  • Excellent communication, writing and analytical abilities and strong interpersonal skills – experience working with low-income communities, immigrant communities and other communities of color;
  • Experience effectively managing project teams, including staff and interns, and outside consultants;
  • Preferred skills include mapping, hand sketching, 3D modeling, renderings, diagramming, detailing, etc.;
  • Experience with data collection and analysis – area-wide indicators (demographic, public health, etc.), community needs assessments, SWOT analyses, etc.;
  • Proficient in SketchUp, InDesign, Adobe Creative Suite, CAD;
  • Experience in proposal and grant writing a plus;
  • Ability to think big while also meeting deadlines and paying close attention to details;
  • Dynamic self-starter who is passionate about community-driven planning and/or design, equitable development and resiliency;
  • Bilingual (Spanish-English) preferred.
Salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience.
