HNTB is seeking a Environmental lanner III in our Chicago, IL office.

Responsibilities:
  • Under general supervision, candidate performs all aspects of environmental planning assignments and may begin to focus expertise. Work emphasizes environmental, preliminary design and technical aspects of transportation projects but may include limited task assignee duties and tasks associated with business development.
  • Candidate may assist in directing small-scale environmental planning projects and assist on portions of larger infrastructure projects from concept development through preliminary design and environmental clearance.
  • Final production of environmental documents, comprehensive plans and reports.
  • Final production of graphics associated with public meetings, presentation drawings, reports, and other outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate with, sub-consultants and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.
  • Use GIS and Arcview and other technical software.
  • Assist in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals and responses to RFP’s.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced staff
  • The position usually involves work within detailed procedures, requiring occasional use of professional judgment and initiative. Most project challenges outside standard procedures will be referred to the supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field plus 4 years of planning experience or Master’s degree in Planning or related field plus 2 years of planning experience 
  • Experience in conducting environmental analyses customarily encountered in NEPA and as well as in accordance with state and
    local regulations and requirements 
  • Experience applying NEPA to highway and transit projects with minimal supervision 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
  • Experience with GIS and ArcView preferred 
  • An RLA, RA, PE registration or AICP, CEP certification is preferred 
Environment and Physical Requirements: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions. Incumbent must have the ability to stand and sit frequently throughout an eight-hour period, reach vertically for overhead use as well as horizontally.
