The City of Richland is located at the confluence of the Columbia and Yakima Rivers in southeastern Washington. Along with its sister cities of Pasco, West Richland, and Kennewick, the metropolitan area is known as the Tri-Cities. Made up of approximately 52,400 residents the City of Richland features beautiful parks and recreation, a high quality of life, and strong industries in government, healthcare, and agriculture.
The City of Richland seeks a new Community Development Director (CDD) who is passionate about providing vision and leadership throughout the City with the goal of enhancing the vitality of the community. Assuming full responsibility for all Community Development Department services and activities, the CDD will develop and implement goals, objectives and policies for the department within City policy including budget preparation, service and staffing levels. Reporting to the City Manager, the CDD plans, organizes, manages and provides administrative direction and oversight for all functions and activities of the Community Development Department. As a strategic partner in City planning, the CDD provides key, high level input in preparing the City’s strategic plan and is responsible for advising the City Manager and City Council on critical issues and decisions on City development and programming.
Qualifications for the position include:
Seven to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in community development operations, including significant experience in a senior management capacity. A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Community Development, Urban Planning, Municipal Planning or related field. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
