Assistant Director of Graduate College Data Analytics - UIC

The Graduate College at the University of Illinois Chicago is seeking an Assistant Director of Graduate College Data Analytics to perform and coordinate campus-level research in the areas of graduate program effectiveness and strategic planning. This position develops, conducts research and analyzes data for decision making and policy implementation in areas including (but not limited to) graduate student retention/attrition, graduate student time-to-degree, graduate student financial aid, enrollment management modeling and forecasting, resource utilization, institutional costs and productivity, access and equity studies, and functional benchmarking specific to graduate higher education. Salary range is $67,000 - $75,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

Research Design

  • Conduct evidence-based best practice research and perform measurement studies to determine or change policies, curricula, and or support services for graduate students.
  • Design effective research strategies and gather relevant information using primary and secondary sources and techniques (e.g., institutional ERPs, on-line databases, the Internet, print sources, government agencies, external research organizations, institutional surveys, etc.).
  • Organize and execute research projects, identifying ways to improve research design and data validity.
  • Develop and carryout sound research methods to investigate effectiveness of institutional practices including those related to graduate student application and admissions processes and graduate student support.
  • Select and adapt quantitative methods, practices, and theories to perform forecasting and analysis, interpret results, and document findings.
  • Identify and obtain state-of-the-art analytical products needed to support the evaluation and adoption of various institutional policies.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Identify and analyze patterns in graduate program data, make critical observations of policy impact, and recommend strategies and actions.
  • Develop analytical models, identify trends and fluctuations, evaluate limitations of data, and specify the range of results needed for management planning, budgeting, and resource decisions.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of survey data (i.e., Graduate Student Survey, Graduate College Satisfaction Survey).
  • Collaborates with GC staff on culling UIC undergraduate student data for graduate recruitment and tracking alumni participants of various GC diversity programs.
  • Serve as the institutional graduate program data contact and provide graduate program data to national organizations (e. g. Council of Graduate Schools).
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

·        A Bachelor’s degree in statistics, psychology, education, or an appropriate social science discipline required. 

·        A minimum of two years’ experience conducting education or social science research in a higher education setting using data analysis, research methods, and statistics.

·        Demonstrated ability to interact with multiple constituents and articulate complex, multifaceted issues contributing to institutional effectiveness

·        Proficiency with business intelligence tools (Tableau, preferred) and database query reporting tools.

·        Experience in institutional research methodology, needs assessment, strategic planning, data collection and quantitative analysis is essential to manipulating and analyzing large data sets in support of institutional research, assessment, and planning.


Preferred Qualifications

·        Master’s degree in statistics, psychology, education or an appropriate social science discipline preferred.

·        Experience with graduate program data and/or at UIC preferred.

PhD Position in Transportation and Urban Science - UNC Charlotte

Who: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking a highly motivated doctoral student to conduct research on a funded project on “Economic Impacts of Transit Investments, Social Challenges, and Strategies for Sustaining High Ridership” to be funded by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The project is co-lead by Distinguished Professor Jean-Claude Thill at UNC Charlotte and Professor Eleni Bardaka, North Carolina State University. Project is scheduled to start August 15, 2019.

What: The student will be enrolled in one of UNC Charlotte’s doctoral programs in Geography, Infrastructure and Environmental Systems (INES), and Public Policy, under the supervision of Dr. Thill. Further information on these programs can be found at the following URLs:

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a masters degree to be admitted to these programs. Applicants must have a background in transportation analysis, urban science, and data analytics. They must demonstrate excellence in written and oral communication, and working knowledge of GIS, spatial statistics, database management, and programming.

Managing Director - Chicagoland Manufacturing Renaissance Council

Who: The Chicagoland Manufacturing Renaissance Council (CMRC) is a program of Manufacturing Renaissance (MR). MR is a Chicago based nonprofit nonpartisan organization, founded in 1982. Manufacturing Renaissance focuses its work to build thriving, sustainable communities by connecting them to manufacturing through education, training and local ownership. The Chicagoland Manufacturing Renaissance Council was formed in 2005 under a shared vision for sustainable and restorative development oriented towards advanced manufacturing. It is a private-public partnership of top leaders from manufacturing, labor, education, community-based organizations and local government. In addition to the CMRC, MR’s signature programs are Manufacturing Connect and the Ownership Conversion Project.  


What: The Managing Director provides overall leadership to the CMRC in continuing to advance its mission, by guiding the efforts towards reaching its short-term objectives and long-term goals. She/he ensures that the CMRC becomes a leading regional organization in promoting, supporting, and advocating “for programs and policies that strengthen our regional manufacturing sector while increasing social inclusion and the strength of communities” (CMRC Mission, Vision, Values statement).  The Managing Director provides direction to the work of the CMRC committees in full and active consultation with the CMRC Executive Committee. The Managing Director reports directly to Manufacturing Renaissance’s Executive Director. Essential duties and responsibilities include:  
1. Gather and communicate data and news related to the manufacturing industry and its relationship to the broader society;  
2. Manage and meet financial objectives of the CMRC through securing contracts, donations and grants;  
3. Maintain communication with CMRC members and the CMRC Executive Committee on a regular basis;  
4. Implement the annual Operations Plan developed by the Executive Committee; and manage and track the workflow of the individual committees as well;  
5. Establish a communications and marketing strategy in collaboration with the Communications and Organizing Director, by increasing brand image and appearance on all type of media;  
6. Sustain existing partnerships and explore new opportunities to expand the operations and membership base of CMRC; and  
7. Ensure that all meetings are well prepared and recorded, and provide effective supervision for administrative and support staff 


Qualifications:  
• Minimum of Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree preferred  
• Direct experience in manufacturing, education, and/or workforce development  
• Minimum of 10 years of community relations, external affairs, policy, and public relations experience  
• Minimum of 3 years in a leadership/senior/executive role  
• Excellent communications skills – written and verbal  
• Able to demonstrate high-level of initiative and professionalism  
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Office, Constant Contact and preferably Salesforce  
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders in a dynamic environment  
• Ability to adapt quickly to challenges and manage several projects at once  


Benefits: This is a full time non-exempt position, requiring some flexibility of schedule to work as needed in the evenings and on weekends. Salary is commensurate with experience. Full benefits package is provided after 1 month of full employment, and 401k plan after 6months.

The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University invites applications for full-time, open-rank faculty positions in Urban Planning in the tenured, tenure-track and professor of practice categories.  The GSAPP is a school dedicated to designing and understanding the local and global built environment with programs in Architecture, Planning, Preservation, Real Estate Development, Urban Design, Curatorial Studies, and doctoral programs in Architecture and Planning. The Urban Planning program is one of the oldest in the nation and has approximately 100 Master’s and 25 Ph.D. students. The Program’s mission is to prepare our students to become leaders of the profession, who are technically capable, ethically informed and committed to the pursuit of equity and social justice in the betterment of the lives of urban people and urban places.
Open to candidates across all urban planning fields, GSAPP is particularly interested in candidates who teach and conduct research in physical planning, environmental issues (including the effects of climate change on cities), data analytics, community development, and global urbanization. Senior candidates should be able and willing to direct the Urban Planning Program.  We anticipate hiring two new faculty for a start date of July 1, 2016.
Responsibilities will include teaching, research, and administration.  Successful applicants will demonstrate a commitment to advancing the field through teaching, practice, and/or research. They will show clear evidence of expertise and have strong leadership and communications skills.  They must have demonstrated capacity for original work and show promise of significant continuing contributions.  A Master’s or Ph.D degree in Urban Planning or a closely related field is required. 
Senior positions require substantial teaching, research, and/or professional experience.  Qualifications for senior positions (tenured or tenure-track) include a strong record of refereed publications and a demonstrable record of outstanding scholarship. Applicants to junior positions must show evidence of great promise of teaching, research and/or professional excellence. Qualifications for junior positions (tenure-track) include emerging leadership in the candidate’s field and the potential to produce outstanding scholarship. Professors of Practice candidates should have significant experience in planning practice and a demonstrable record of excellence in their professional career. Faculty of the Urban Planning Program are expected to collaborate with colleagues across GSAPP on research, teaching studios and events.
GSAPP seeks faculty who can innovate their disciplines and can create an environment where students can not only be educated in current and past ideas and methods, but can also explore and test new ideas. Therefore, preference will generally be given to candidates who are able to teach and/or conduct research in both traditional fields and in an emergent specialization.
