Position Summary:
The Director, Urban Green Infrastructure Partnerships will act as NatureVest's primary point of contact with municipalities and private developers looking to incorporate green infrastructure into their programs and will be responsible for ensuring investment objectives are incorporated into implementation. Reporting to Director of Product Development,this key position is a unique and exciting opportunity for an entrepreneurial leader who is knowledgeable and passionate about leveraging financial markets to drive environmental impact and urban sustainability through urban green infrastructure investments.

Responsibilities & Scope:
  • Working in collaboration with the Director of Product Development and the North America Urban Conservation Directors, engage U.S. municipalities through direct outreach to mayors' offices, utilities, and regulators to develop a pipeline of viable investment opportunities.
  • Work with the Director of Product Development to set strategic direction for municipal and regional priorities and investment criteria.
  • Work with Director of Product Development to evaluate and scope deals. Ensure preliminary conservation objectives are considered and incorporated into initial scope definition and assist with the development partner selection process.
  • Work closely with TNC's Global and North American Cities Programs, and interested TNC Chapters to train staff and their municipal constituents to support evaluation of how cities can leverage impact capital and NatureVest to identify potential opportunities for investable green infrastructure and stormwater management initiatives.
  • Establish working relationships with local and national enterprises, municipalities, and other NGOs to identify high-quality development partners, build sources of demand for green infrastructure investment, and establish partners in policy leadership and community engagement.
  • Maintain international profile by producing original thought leadership pieces through written articles, conference appearances, and video work on policy and investment best practices.
  • Significant US travel involved.

Desired Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:
  • BA/BS degree and 12 years in municipal government or as a technical consultant to municipal government working on regulated water quality issues, sustainability-related initiatives, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and directing complex initiatives of strategic importance, including the management of budgets, the supervision of multidisciplinary professionals, and the coordination of the work of partners.
  • Experience in partnership development (partners, community, government, etc.), working effectively with a broad array of stakeholders with divergent needs.
  • Experience with current trends and practices in stormwater policy, regulation, and green infrastructure implementation.
  • Successful experience facilitating complex negotiations with municipal, state, and/or federal governments, and/or private business.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Master's in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Public Administration or Business Administration, or other advanced degree with significant course work in policy, planning and public administration is preferred.
  • Sense of urgency, with the ability to manage multiple work streams on time and on budget while meeting or exceeding goals.

The Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University invites applications for full-time, open-rank faculty positions in Urban Planning in the tenured, tenure-track and professor of practice categories.  The GSAPP is a school dedicated to designing and understanding the local and global built environment with programs in Architecture, Planning, Preservation, Real Estate Development, Urban Design, Curatorial Studies, and doctoral programs in Architecture and Planning. The Urban Planning program is one of the oldest in the nation and has approximately 100 Master’s and 25 Ph.D. students. The Program’s mission is to prepare our students to become leaders of the profession, who are technically capable, ethically informed and committed to the pursuit of equity and social justice in the betterment of the lives of urban people and urban places.
Open to candidates across all urban planning fields, GSAPP is particularly interested in candidates who teach and conduct research in physical planning, environmental issues (including the effects of climate change on cities), data analytics, community development, and global urbanization. Senior positions require substantial teaching, research, and/or professional experience.  Qualifications for senior positions (tenured or tenure-track) include a strong record of refereed publications and a demonstrable record of outstanding scholarship. Applicants to junior positions must show evidence of great promise of teaching, research and/or professional excellence. Qualifications for junior positions (tenure-track) include emerging leadership in the candidate’s field and the potential to produce outstanding scholarship. Professors of Practice candidates should have significant experience in planning practice and a demonstrable record of excellence in their professional career. Faculty of the Urban Planning Program are expected to collaborate with colleagues across GSAPP on research, teaching studios and events.

The faculty of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning invites applicants for a ladder (tenure track) position as assistant professor in the field of Environmental Planning.  Our faculty is part of the School of Architecture and Planning, University at Buffalo, The State University of New York.  The appointment is expected to commence in August 2016.

We are searching for applicants whose research and teaching interests focus on environmental planning, in any combination of the following:

By the beginning of the appointment in August 2016, applicants must hold a Ph.D. in planning or a related field. The selected candidate may be given teaching responsibilities in any or all of our department’s degree programs, described below. We are especially interested in candidates who will become closely involved in the “Environmental and Land Use Planning” specialization within the Master of Urban Planning Program.
The duties of a faculty member involve a combination of research, teaching, and service. The teaching load is two classes per semester, at the graduate or undergraduate level in the general curriculum as well as in his or her area of specialization.  Up to two course-relief opportunities may be available during the tenure-track period. There is an also expectation of service to the department, school, university, and community.

Our Department: With thirteen tenured or tenure-track faculty members, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning is one of two accredited departments in a professional school of about 700 full-time equivalent students.  The Department offers five degree programs: the B.A. in Environmental Design with about 90 students; the accredited Master’s of Urban Planning (M.U.P.) degree with about 90 students; joint master degrees with Architecture, Law, and soon Public Health; and a growing Ph.D. degree in Urban Planning currently with nine students.  The department also participates in administering master’s level studies in historic preservation and real estate development.  
  
The department is expected to re-enter its fully restored nineteenth-century building on the university’s historic urban campus, by the summer of 2016. We are served by a fine Architecture and Planning Library, and have excellent computing facilities, with a variety of high-performing systems available in labs and studios.

Interdisciplinary Opportunities: The person hired for this position will be encouraged to become involved with the new and expanding “RENEW” Institute at the University at Buffalo, which conducts research and education related to energy, environment, and water. The Institute is university-wide and interdisciplinary, focusing on complex energy and environmental issues, as well as the social and economic ramifications. It helps develop and coordinate innovative research, education and outreach programs. (http://www.buffalo.edu/renew.html).  He or she is also encouraged to collaborate with faculty members in our neighboring Department of Architecture, with which we have close collegial relations, as well as with colleagues in the natural and social sciences and engineering.

The Community Resilience Associate will help build a regional framework for resilience within and across coastal and inland municipalities through planning, policy, and projects that reduces risks from natural hazards and climate change.  The position will require extensive community-based engagement, partnership building, land use policy reviews, green/natural infrastructure project design, and on-call support for municipalities and regional organizations within New London County, Connecticut.  This position is a key addition to a highly effective team engaged with coastal resilience on local, state, national, and international platforms since 2007.  This is a one-year term position commencing upon hire date.  
Essential functions for this position include all of the following:
  • Advances and strengthens working relationships with priority municipalities, Council of Governments, and a broad array of stakeholders on behalf of the Conservancy’s Coastal Resilience Network and North American Urban Program;
  • Supports development of resilient practices, policy, and projects via community-driven workshops and design charrettes;
  • Gathers and synthesizes geospatial data relating to watershed hazard risks/strengths and green/natural infrastructure projects;
  • Reviews and develops local land use policy suggestions to improve resilience;
  • Conducts field visits and site reviews with partners at the municipal and regional scale;
  • Provides on-call services to priority municipalities on resiliency and hazard issues.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field and 2 year related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with community outreach and workshops.
  • Experience in local land use policy review and interpretation.
  • Experience utilizing GIS software and data for geospatial analysis and product development for diversity audiences.
  • Experience conducting field visits and site reviews of coastlines and waterways with engineers, designers, and planners.

  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and managing timeframes.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite software. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of coastal systems, freshwater ecology, and resource management concepts in the context of risk reduction, hazard mitigation, and resilience at the local to regional scales.
  • Experience in municipal-based planning and innovative land use policy applications.
  • Background in environmental/landscape design – particularly green/natural infrastructure projects.
  • Solid GIS background and proven product development, including ability to utilize data and analytical tools and applications. Analyzing, manipulating, and interpreting data, including statistics.
  • Database management skills including creation of map products and report production.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Web browsers) as well as project conceptual design software programs. 
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

CivicSpark is a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local governments to address climate change. CivicSpark is hiring 48 members for the 2015-16 service year (start date: October 19, 2015) to complete climate change mitigation and adaptation work throughout California. This is a unique opportunity for recent college graduates to gain valuable experience in the sustainability field, build professional and technical skills, and develop a strong network, while making a lasting impact.
CivicSpark members work on projects that support local governments in 8 regions throughout California: North Coast, San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento, Sierra Nevada, San Joaquin Valley, Los Angeles, and Southern California. While projects vary, members can expect to work on a range of tasks, including data collection and analysis, meeting facilitation, community outreach, report writing, and presentation of results. All members will complete their service year with a strong understanding of working within local governments, experienec working with key climate change mitigation and adaptation tools, ability to analyze data, and ability to work successfully in a team office environment. In addition to project work, members will have the opportunity to regularly attend trainings for technical knowledge and professional development, as well as work on volunteer services. Members will be organized into regional teams made up of 3-10 members and a half-time senior project manager.

ULI is hiring for a position in the Content team, which will focus on infrastructure issues and policy  and support work related to ULI’s Building Healthy Places Initiative. Through its infrastructure work, ULI promotes more environmentally and economically sustainable infrastructure investment choices, and fosters an improved understanding of the links between infrastructure and land use. Infrastructure in this context refers to transportation, energy, water, and wastewater, among other topics. The Building Healthy Places Initiative leverages the power of ULI’s global networks to shape projects and places in ways that improve the health of people as well as communities.
The person hired for this position will undertake research and work on matters that cut across infrastructure and health—for example, air quality, water quality, active transportation, food, climate change, etc.—and will undertake projects that relate to and support work that spans the ULI centers. The person in this position will report to the Senior Vice President for Content.
This is a full-time exempt position located in Washington, D.C.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position will:
  • Support ULI publications related to infrastructure, including but not limited to transit-oriented development and active transportation.
  • Track policy at the national, state, and local levels related to transportation, energy/climate change, water and wastewater, and health.
  • Track and write about local and regional infrastructure innovations and related data, targeted to the ULI membership.
  • Serve as an expert resource and adviser to ULI members, district councils, and staff on infrastructure and related issues.
  • Support the ULI Healthy Corridors project.
  • Interface and strategically engage with partner organizations on policy, health, and infrastructure issues. 
  • Plan and execute forums, conferences, and other events.
Specific deliverables and projects include:
  • Support to theActive Transportationreport (in FY16) and similar reports in the future.
  • Prepare and conduct meetings with ULI members and outside experts to research and disseminate ideas, as they are relevant to ULI. This may include organizing forums; developing event programs; identifying speakers and participants; developing supporting materials; and implementing follow-up actions.
  • Compiling infrastructure and health-related program ideas for district councils.
  • Regular tracking and updating of Content group on policy areas discussed above, with exploration of potential impacts to the real estate industry.
  • Paying attention to communications platforms including infrastructure and health portions of ULI’s website, e-newsletters, mailings, and more.
  • Assisting in attracting sponsorship and foundation grant funds.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s degree in real estate, sustainability, urban planning, engineering, or related degree.
  • 3-5 years of experience in related work.
  • Knowledge, experience, and expertise in a broad range of topics related to real estate.
  • Experience in research, education, and outreach projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in working as a team player in a variety of settings.
  • Experience in finance, infrastructure, and land use development helpful.
  • Experience in the working with and for nonprofit organizations.
