General Overview:
The Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) is a non-profit public interest organization that works in the public interest to foster collaboration in shared mobility (including bikesharing, carsharing, ridesharing and more) and help connect the growing industry with transit agencies, cities and communities across the nation. Through piloting programs, conducting new research and providing advice and expertise to cities and regions, SUMC hopes to extend the benefits of shared mobility for all.

Position Overview:
The Project Associate will work closely with the Project Manager to implement a peer-to-peer carsharing pilot project. Peer-to-peer carsharing is a process by which car owners rent their vehicles to other people by the hour or the day.

As a start-up pilot project, this person will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to communications, outreach, and marketing activities. We are anticipating a creative and flexible, but also fast-paced atmosphere. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and an independent worker.

In particular, s/he must be well organized, outgoing, and have excellent communication, outreach, and customer service skills. We anticipate that this person will interact with a wide range of people including car owners and renters, community groups, and local businesses.

Project Associate Duties:
  • Conduct web based and grassroots outreach to communities, car owners, and driver participants. 
  • Assist with marketing and communications activities. 
  • Track program metrics and analyze data. 
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations.

As an organization, the Bureau of Transportation strives to model inclusivity and promote equity through its service delivery, internal operations and organizational culture.

The Portland Bureau of Transportation is looking for a dynamic planner to serve as Portland's Pedestrian Modal Coordinator within the Bureau's Policy, Planning and Projects Group to help guide the future use of Portland's right of way and the transportation choices of it citizens.

The Position
The Pedestrian Coordinator serves as the overall expert, advocate and advisor for pedestrian needs to Bureau staff, Mayor and City Council, other City Bureaus and partner agencies. The Pedestrian Coordinator works collaboratively with staff to ensure that planners and project managers are given consistent advice and direction so that project outcomes can best serve Portlanders no matter what transportation mode they choose. The Pedestrian Coordinator also plays an important role in advancing the bureau's outreach and engagement about pedestrian mobility with traditionally under-served and under-represented groups of Portlanders. Although not required, competitive candidates will have graduated from a 4-year college with a major in Planning, Transportation Planning, or related field i.e. Landscape Architecture and at least 3 year's experience in Transportation Pplanning or related field i.e. Engineering.

This position is responsible for implementing the recommended goals, actions, activities and capital projects identified in the Portland Pedestrian Master Plan by:
  • Monitoring pedestrian related transportation planning and capital projects and activities for the Bureau,
  • Reviewing and making recommendations on policy and city-wide planning efforts,
  • Reviewing design and construction plans for projects to optimize pedestrian accessibility and safety, while ensuring the essential movement of all modes,
  • Serving as the Bureau's staff person for the City's Pedestrian Advisory Committee, including Committee membership recruitment, agenda coordination and ongoing support.
  • Responding to residents' inquiries on pedestrian-related community impact issues and developing appropriate courses of action,
  • Preparing grant applications and funding requests for implementing the identified activities and projects in the Pedestrian Master Plan and other directive plans,
  • Supporting the Bureau's efforts on compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and acting as a resource for ADA considerations related to pedestrian facilities in the Right of Way.

To Qualify:
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  • Knowledge of transportation and urban planning and design principles, practices, current trends, regulations, standards and Federal laws including ADA Title II.
  • Knowledge of project planning, budgeting, prioritizing, proposal composition, resource allocation and controls.

Purpose: The Real Estate Services Department provides a wide range of real estate consulting and real estate development services to Midwestern nonprofits and in support of the agency’s broader goal of promoting comprehensive community development through help with the planning, designing, development and construction of facilities.
Reports to: Vice President of Real Estate Services

Basic Job Function:

The Director of Home First assumes overall responsibility for all aspects of IFF’s Home First program, which develops and owns integrated housing for people with disabilities. The Director of Home First guides the mission of Home First, taking an active role in developing new opportunities, providing executive oversight of project implementation, working with advocates, elected officials, and funders to remove barriers to the expansion of integrated supportive housing, researching new models of integrated housing development, and positioning Home First as a leader on the issue of integrated housing for people with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities: 
1. Manages and expands IFF’s Home First program, including guiding implementation of Home First’s mission; creating and implementing a strategic plan to guide development and identify and overcome policy barriers; executive oversight of project implementation; monitoring Home First’s performance against annual benchmarks; and promotion of the Home First model.

2. Independently manages Home First staff as Project Executive on Home First-related real estate projects and as a general resource for answering questions, troubleshooting, and solving problems when they arise, and providing guidance and training to both Home First and other RES staff as needed.

a. Supervises assigned staff, including scheduling, counseling and coaching, staff development and training, performance evaluation, professional development, and, if necessary, disciplinary actions, in accord with IFF’s personnel policies and procedures.

b. Assumes responsibility for Home First and other RES staff workload planning and project assignments in coordination with VP of RES and Managing Directors of Chicago and Regional Consulting Teams.

c. Acts as Project Executive, supporting Project Team Leader in coordinating all aspects of securing funding for and implementing each Home First project. Position Description –Director of Home First

d. Works collaboratively with IFF housing consulting and lenders.

e. Provides appropriate training to staff.

f. Monitors team progress on projects.

4. Develops and maintains external relationships with funders, elected officials, public employees, and disability advocates locally, regionally, and nationally.

5. Identifies public policy issues related to integrated housing for people with disabilities and coordinates with VP of Public Policy and Communications on development of any public policy action plans.

6. Makes presentations to and facilitates meetings with external and internal parties on Home First activities and other topics related to expanding integrated housing for people with disabilities, and represents IFF at meetings and events.

7. Prepares reports on Home First for IFF’s senior management and board and prepares written materials on Home First for external parties as needed.

8. Maintains required job knowledge and skills and core professional competencies. Understands Olmstead-based consent decrees governing states’ actions regarding the transition of people with disabilities from institutional settings. Attends and participates in required educational programs and staff meetings.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Performance Measures:
1. Oversee the successful completion of Home First’s strategic efforts and development projects according to goals set forth for the program-level strategic plan and for each individual project.

2. Effectively engage funders and public officials toward the goal of removing barriers to integrated housing for people with disabilities.

3. High level of internal and external colleague satisfaction with respect to knowledge of relevant subject matter, leadership in accomplishing goals, and respect shown to partners.

4. Internal and external meetings are facilitated in an organized way and are meaningful to the participants.

Position Description –Director of Home First 

Position Qualifications:

Education: Advanced degree in policy, planning, business, or real estate finance strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree plus additional ten years relevant experience may substitute for advanced degree.

Experience: At least seven years of community development experience in affordable rental housing finance and/or development, nonprofit human services and/or housing management required. Special

Knowledge & Skills: Ability to create and guide a strategic vision for an overall program. Must have sensitivity to the issues faced by and needs of people with disabilities. Direct experience with affordable rental housing financing programs, via policy development, underwriting transactions and/or creating rental development and operating budgets. Ability to problem-solve, engaging others as needed to trouble-shoot as issues arise. Familiarity with funding programs and policies specific to affordable and/or supportive housing. Familiarity with Supreme Court’s Olmstead decision and resulting consent decrees preferred, but not required. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills and ability to translate complex real estate and other concepts into relatable concepts for a broad audience. Experience in making formal presentations to a variety of audiences. Ability to work with elected officials, funders, tenants, and advocates.

Analytical and strategic skills; ability to plan and manage the implementation of multiple complex projects simultaneously; and ability to conceptualize and communicate project goals. Experience managing a team and navigating a multitude of relationships. Ability to learn and use a variety of computer software related, including word processing, presentation programs, and spread sheets.

Unusual Physical Requirements: Travel is required. The Director of Home First may visit abandoned buildings and vacant lots occasionally. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Policy Work: Provide support to the Manager of Organizing and Policy in monitoring affordable housing policy and legislation at local, state and Federal levels; coordinating public and written testimony and comments on proposed legislation and policy/rule changes; and promoting new policies and policy reform efforts creating affordable, accessible, integrated housing for people with disabilities
  • Community Education/Outreach: Conduct public education efforts around housing policy and legislation, including through the use of media; Provide internal and external workshops and seminars on housing policy, related court cases, and legislation
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Conduct written quarterly project activities reports; Ensure compliance with grant requirements through regular data entry; act as a spokesperson for Access Living on housing issues as assigned; and execute any other duties as assigned. 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Minimum educational background required

    The newly re-constituted Chattanooga Design Studio seeks an enthusiastic, detail-oriented urban designer to lead the Studio’s design efforts. The Design Studio is a non-profit community resource that promotes excellence in urban design in Chattanooga through education, facilitation, and collaboration. The Studio will be an active partner in promoting the value of good urban design decisions in the development, functionality, and resiliency of the City of Chattanooga.  As a steward of the city’s rich legacy of urban design and planning, the Studio will strive to increase public awareness of urban design issues and their impact upon our quality of life. With a particular emphasis on the importance of the public realm, the Studio will provide high level coordination of urban design efforts to help frame a vision for the future growth of the city that promotes optimal value for the community.
    About the Position
    The Senior Urban Designer will be responsible for managing and performing a broad array of research, analysis and design investigations. The position will entail directed and independent work in support of the Studio’s mission. The ideal candidate will be equally adept working with non-profit, public, and private sector organizations throughout the community. The Senior Urban Designer operates under the supervision of the Executive Director and will be responsible for the direction, oversight and management of a robust intern program.
    Qualifications
    The ideal candidate will demonstrate critical thinking in the design of the community at a variety of scales; demonstrate knowledge of principles, practices, and trends in architecture and urban design; conduct studies, analyze findings and provide recommendations for a wide range of urban design issues with an emphasis on the urban public realm; exhibit strong written, oral and graphic communication skills; possess illustrative graphic skills in hand renderings and/or computer aided techniques; be equally adept in working with local governments, housing and downtown development organizations, philanthropic organizations and private developers; and be capable of effectively working in ethnically, and socio-economically diverse environments
    Required Education and Experience
    The minimum requirements for the position are a bachelor's Degree in architecture, landscape architecture, or planning from an accredited college or university and eight (8) or more years of relevant urban design experience. Licensed architects are strongly encouraged to apply.  
    Candidates should also exhibit:
    -Demonstrated knowledge of urban design principles and practices,
    -Familiarity with planning and development standards and ADA requirements,
    -Demonstrated ability to perform projects within budget and to schedule resources efficiently,
    -Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including public presentations,
    -Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work and activities,
    -Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce.
    Compensation
    Commensurate with experience.
