About the Volunteer Role: Summer P2P Specialist
SUMC is looking for volunteers to serve as Summer P2P Specialists. Summer P2P Specialists support our informational and promotional booths throughout the summer and early fall at street festivals and community events. The purpose of the promotional booth is to increase participation in a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Carsharing Pilot Program, a two-year, grant-funded pilot project to explore P2P carsharing in the Chicago metropolitan area. P2P carsharing is a type of car rental service through which car owners rent their vehicles to other people for an hourly rate. This pilot is a partnership between SUMC, the Center for Neighborhood Technology (CNT) and Getaround. Summer P2P Specialists attend street festivals, farmers' markets, and similar events to talk to community members about the environmental and economic benefits of P2P carsharing and encourage event attendees to sign up for Getaround, a P2P carsharing service.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Promote SUMC's P2P Carsharing Pilot Program by talking about the program with festival attendees
Assist with keeping the booth organized and tidy
Help load or unload materials into or out of booth as needed

Time Commitment:
  • One-hour training session
  • Volunteer shift between two and five hours, usually during an evening or weekend
  • Volunteers may choose to work multiple shifts throughout the summer
Qualifications:
  • Willing and able to initiate conversations with event patrons
  • Able to spend at least three hours standing and sitting outdoors in close proximity to others
  • Reasonable accommodations will be made for volunteers upon request
Compensation:
This is a volunteer opportunity. There will be no monetary compensation.

General Overview:
The Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC) is a non-profit public interest organization that works in the public interest to foster collaboration in shared mobility (including bikesharing, carsharing, ridesharing and more) and help connect the growing industry with transit agencies, cities and communities across the nation. Through piloting programs, conducting new research and providing advice and expertise to cities and regions, SUMC hopes to extend the benefits of shared mobility for all.

Position Overview:
The Project Associate will work closely with the Project Manager to implement a peer-to-peer carsharing pilot project. Peer-to-peer carsharing is a process by which car owners rent their vehicles to other people by the hour or the day.

As a start-up pilot project, this person will be responsible for a wide range of duties related to communications, outreach, and marketing activities. We are anticipating a creative and flexible, but also fast-paced atmosphere. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and an independent worker.

In particular, s/he must be well organized, outgoing, and have excellent communication, outreach, and customer service skills. We anticipate that this person will interact with a wide range of people including car owners and renters, community groups, and local businesses.

Project Associate Duties:
  • Conduct web based and grassroots outreach to communities, car owners, and driver participants. 
  • Assist with marketing and communications activities. 
  • Track program metrics and analyze data. 
  • Manage relationships with partner organizations. 
  • Use research to inform project implementation and likely participants. 
  • Assist with market research activities including focus groups and online surveying. 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • One to three years' experience in related field. 
  • Outreach or customer service experience preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. 
  • Prefer strong technical skills. 
  • Self-starter with ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision. 
  • Willingness to be available on call evenings and weekends as needed.
