We are seeking a designer for our Berkeley office that is passionate, creative, energetic, and deeply committed to producing design and planning work that shapes and improves communities.  We have a fast-paced office filled with employees that can multi-task.  The position’s workload will vary and will include drawing, writing, mapping and research.  Projects range from streetscape and neighborhood plans to large scale transit-oriented development plans and downtown plans. 
Responsibilities:
¨  Help shape visions for places
¨  Develop polices, strategies, and design guidelines related to the built environment.
¨  Create urban design and planning concepts for different types of land use, site development, landscape design, and transportation.
¨  Research urban design and planning issues, including urban design best practices; bicycle and pedestrian improvements; community and natural resources; infrastructure and services; and funding opportunities.
¨  Write urban design and planning related documents, such as existing conditions reports, vision documents, specific plans, design guidelines and proposals.
¨  Design and prepare illustrative and graphic materials, including GIS maps, to communicate ideas in documents, presentations, and at community meetings.
¨  Edit, layout, and produce work products for client and public review.
¨  Assist at community meetings by preparing meeting materials, taking notes, and facilitating small group discussions.
¨  Coordinate with clients and subconsultants
Skills and Abilities:
¨  Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.
¨  Writing proficiency is required.
¨  Familiarity with ArcGIS is desired, but not required. 
¨  Spanish is desired, but not required.
¨  Architecture and hand drawing skills are desired, but not required.
Education and Experience:
¨  2 years of related experience performing the responsibilities listed above.
¨  Master’s degree in City & Regional Planning, Urban Design, or related field.
