MassDevelopment is accepting applications for a candidate pool for Transformative Development Initiative [TDI] Fellows. The Agency is looking for enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and accomplished mid-career professionals with diverse experiences who are passionate about the economic, redevelopment, and community- development opportunities in the Gateway Cities of Massachusetts. Three Fellows will be selected to serve as MassDevelopment employees embedded in Gateway Cities for three years to advance TDI in select strategic districts on behalf of local collaborative public-private partnerships.
Interested candidates who meet the qualifications listed below should remit their qualifications to fellows@massdevelopment.com. Applications for the inaugural TDI Fellows Candidate Pool will be accepted until midnight, Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
The Transformative Development Initiative [TDI] is a new cross-agency program at MassDevelopment designed to accelerate redevelopment in the Massachusetts Gateway Cities. The Initiative will provide a strategic focus on districts, supporting local public-private collaborative partnerships, and enhanced community engagement to build on localized planning efforts and increase community capacity in revitalization.
The initial candidate pool of TDI Fellows will be identified in December 2014 and will proceed in a matching process with eligible Gateway Cities in January 2015, with appointments starting shortly thereafter. This fellowship is best suited to people who have a broad expertise in urban development including familiarity or experience in multiple spheres of development (public, private, and non-profit). Most importantly, the successful candidates will be outgoing and have a collaborative community-building approach as well as a passion for small cities and their opportunity for economic growth.
Minimum selection requirements for this position include bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of professional experience in urban planning, architecture, real estate, community development, and/or organizing, and economic development in the public or private sector. The candidate must be entrepreneurial, self-directed, and able to thrive in ambiguous, fast-paced, and stimulating urban environments with demonstrated exposure to urban redevelopment. Preferred candidates will have additional years of public and private experience and master’s degree, including specialized expertise that may be unique capacity to a smaller city economic development team, as well as have experience in shaping and building support for a new program.
Please submit a directed cover letter describing interest in fellows program, including expertise that could contribute to the urban development work and Fellows cohort, resume, and 1-page Narrative Statement as described here, and up to three short writing samples and one public presentation. Applications for Fellows Pool will be accepted until midnight, Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
