Executive Director, Beverly Area Planning Association - Chicago, IL

BASIC FUNCTION
 Chief staff member of a 67-year-old organization with total assets of $1 million and four, full-time employees. Serves as executive officer to provide strategic leadership, raise funds and plan, organize and direct the staff, programs and activities of the association to assure that objectives are attained.  Builds and maintains effective internal and external relationships with a diverse constituency.  Recommends and participates in the formulation of policies and makes decisions within existing policies as they have been approved by the Board. Achieves fiscal and program performance, forward-looking programming and the constructive, transformative growth of the association.

Required
The Executive Director must be a proven leader who demonstrates an understanding of, and dedication to, the mission of the Beverly Hills Planning Association (BAPA) to preserve and improve the Beverly Hills/Morgan Park neighborhood of Chicago.  As the principal advocate and spokesperson for BAPA, this individual must be a strong leader with the ability to engage and inspire staff, volunteers, local business owners, policymakers, educational institutions, public safety organizations, faith-based organizations, members of the media and the larger Beverly Hills/Morgan Park community. The individual must possess excellent communication skills (spoken and written) and be able to communicate effectively both within BAPA and to audiences outside of BAPA concerning its mission and goals. In addition, he or she must hold a Bachelors degree, have 5+ years of experience in a non-profit or civic organization, and currently reside or be willing to relocate to the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood.
Strongly Preferred
 In addition, the Executive Director should possess the following skills and experience:
  • A significant record of accomplishment and proven effectiveness as a leader both within an organization and in the larger community.
  • Experience owning a business, working in a privately owned business, or working with business owners.
  • A solid understanding of the Beverly Hills/Morgan Park community, its history, historic designation and evolution.
  • A strong track record in marketing, fundraising, managing internal and external communications and financial planning.
  • A record of working effectively towards common goals with people and organizations representing diverse sets of interests.
  • Experience with the policymaking process or the skills to quickly be effective in this setting.
  • Experience managing an office staff within a small and collegial office environment. This includes the ability to delegate, set goals, keep staff members on task, and provide developmental feedback.
  • Basic computing skills, including a familiarity and comfort with social media.
