Research Analyst, Institute for Housing Studies, DePaul University - Chicago

Research Analyst

The Institute for Housing Studies (IHS) is a research center situated in
the Real Estate Center at DePaul University. IHS’s mission is to provide
reliable, impartial, and timely data and research to inform housing
policy decisions and discussions about the state of housing in the
Chicago region and nationally. IHS’s work in particular focuses on
affordable housing issues and understanding the changing dynamics of
neighborhood housing markets. The Institute examines a range of housing
issues, including housing affordability, housing finance, homeownership,
sustainable neighborhood redevelopment, and emerging trends. IHS’s
research will explore and document often rapidly changing conditions in
local housing markets; influence local and national policy decisions;
measure the impact of interventions; and raise awareness of emerging
housing issues. The Research Analyst will build, test, and update data
sets that make up the Institute's housing data clearinghouse.

*Principal Duties and Responsibilities*

  * Test integrity of core IHS data sets.
  * Work with IHS senior staff to build custom data sets combining
    different types of data from the Institute’s data clearinghouse.
  * Work with IHS staff to conduct data production and analysis to
    assist in the completion of research, technical assistance, other
    projects.
  * Act as liaison between IHS and the Information Services department
    to monitor the status of data as it enters IHS’s Data Clearinghouse.
  * Assist in the acquisition and integration of new data into the Data
    Clearinghouse.
  * Perform other duties as assigned.

*Minimum Requirements*

  * Bachelor’s degree in economics, urban planning, public policy,
    geography, or some related field.
  * Experience managing, building, and merging large data sets.
  * Strong data analysis and research skills.
  * High attention to detail.
  * Background using Excel, SPSS, and SAS.
  * Ability to work in a collaborative setting.

*Preferred Requirements:*

  * Master’s degree.
  * Background in housing and/or community development policy.
  * Experience with other statistical packages.
